There are 128 different types of fish you can catch in Dredge, a Lovecraftian fishing and exploration game set in an open-world archipelago. The further out you venture towards the horizon, and the later you stay out during the night, the more species, and valuable aberrations you are likely to come across.

The Mangrove fish require four Research Parts to unlock. Populating the Twisted Strand region on the northwestern part of the map, Mangrove fish require an Anti-Tangle Line, which you will have access to right after you unlock the Flexible Fishing Pole. Here’s a list of the ones you’ll find in order of how valuable they are.

9 Sergeant Fish - $30

The Sergeant Fish in Dredge

Sergeant Fish are the most common species of Mangrove you’ll find in and around the Twisted Strand. Small in size and fast in motion, they exist in large numbers and are seen peacefully roaming about the area during the day, making them significantly easy to catch.

You will typically only need a rod and trawl to be able to capture one of these, and if you keep going, you might catch the whole swarm. They are also easy to stack up in your inventory, and will get you $30 a head at the nearest fishmonger.

8 Gar - $40

The Gar in Dredge

This exceptionally long and slender fish can grow to up to two meters and haunts the shallows of Twisted Strand. Had this been a fishing game where fish fight back, or you take any kind of damage when you reel in a particularly difficult fish, Its long beak and its sharp teeth would have definitely given you a run for your money.

Like the Sergeant Fish, the Gar will only require you own a rod and a trawl and will earn you $40 a pop at the Fishmonger or the Traveling Merchant.

7 Longfin Eel - $65

The Longfin Eel in Dredge

Haunting the Twisted Strand at night, the Longfin Eel hides out all day coiled around the roots of mangrove trees, and then comes out at night to hunt. Requiring nothing but a rod, it is particularly easy to catch and, since it only takes up five slots, it is not too hard to stack up in your inventory.

It is also a dependable and profitable catch, bringing in about $65 at the local fishmonger.

6 Catfish

The Catfish in Dredge

The Catfish is also easy to find, usually hanging out around the E13 quadrant on the map. Thanks to its reliable sensing barbels, the Catfish can easily find morsels to feed on in the mud, making it a regular resident in this part of the sea.

You can also reel in a whole school of them with a rod and a trawl, and if you hang out at the same place at night, you have a pretty good chance of catching its aberration - the Nightwing Catfish.

5 Vortex Interloper - $70

The Vortex Interloper in Dredge

The Vortex Interloper is an aberration of the Sergeant Fish, and something really strange happened to it, because its abdomen curled in on itself into a literal vortex. It is unclear how the Vortex Interloper manages to feed itself, but it manages to survive quite nicely, bringing in $70 a head at the nearest fishmonger.

Even though it is an aberration, it still hangs out at the Twisted Strand by day, and only takes up three slots in your inventory.

4 Clawfin Gar - $100

The Clawfin Gar in Dredge

The Clawfin Gar is the aberration of the Gar, and its fins have been engorged with talons that grab at you like a hand. Don’t be fooled by how it looks, though, it can be seen boldly roaming the Twisted Strand by day, and like other fish suffering from aberrations, it brings in good profit as they are believed to give their eaters special abilities.

The Clawfin Gar can also be caught with a rod and a trawl, and you can fit a few of them in your inventory. Taking up only four slots, it can get you $100 a catch at the fishmonger.

3 Twinned Eels - $155

The Twinned Eel in Dredge

For twins, these ones don’t get along so well. They are infinitely cursed to pull away at each other, with one head at either end, and each has its own pursuits in life. The Twinned Eels are regular nighttime inhabitants of the Twisted Strand, but they’re not as scary as they look, since it only takes a rod to get one of those.

They do, however, pack a lot of value, getting you around $155 a catch. They also take up one less slot than their unmutated Longfin Eel cousins, so you can go home with three to four and call it a night.

2 Nightwing Catfish - $180

The Nightwing Catfish in Dredge

The Nightwing Catfish is the aberration of the Catfish, with hooked barbels clawing out of its face to hunt prey at night. Although it is rare to come across, it will significantly limit your storage once you catch one because it takes up six slots in your inventory. That may not be too big of a problem though, because it brings in $180 a head. At its maximum length, it can even bring in $225.

It is also part of a Pursuit that the fishmonger will request from you around The Bitter End, so be prepared and learn how to stalk and catch those big boys because it will definitely come in handy.

1 Goliath Tigerfish - $250

The Goliath Tigerfish in Dredge

Another fish packing big Mangrove energy is the Goliath Tigerfish, which takes up a staggering eight slots of your inventory and is also part of the Recording Rarities Pursuit. Unlike the Nightwing Catfish, which requires a rod and a trawl, the Goliath Tigerfish only requires a rod to catch, which is quite thoughtful of it because you might need to throw out your trawl anyway to clear up some inventory space and bring this one home.

If you successfully manage this feat, which you can by day or night, you’re looking at a hefty $250 price tag.
