Driveclub remains one of the most visually impressive games on the market. With an initial release in 2014 the racing game has undergone massive changes. One major change was the weather physics.

Evolution Studios consistently worked after the release to deliver the most realistic experience. Some fans deem the game "the epitome of weather simulation in video games." Evolution Studios implemented a proper physics system so that the rain particles are simulated according to the laws of force, acceleration, and motion.

Now with each individual droplet becoming its own asset in the title, the raindrops will act independently according to the wind and way that the car is moving.

Driveclub Rain Gaming detail

Rain never truly falls straight down to the ground since wind is a factor. Evolution Studios made it so if the car is stationary or moving slowly it will appear at zero angle. When the car speeds up it will be viewed as the rain coming towards the driver, and become more angular. They also incorporated a simulation in which the angle of the raindrops will differ depending on the speed of the car.

This, of course, impacts the handling of each car. Making the roads slippery and increasing the possibility of sliding or hydroplaning. This happens due to the tires trying to grip the surface, but not having enough friction due to the rain.

The design even goes as far as to change when players enter a more dry environment such as a tunnel. The windshield will begin to dry, and the remaining droplets will coat the car and slowly drop off. The windshield dries up in proportion to the number of times the wipers wipe the shield.

The amount of work that goes into this fine detail has made this title stand out graphically. At launch, the title did not do well, but since then with updates players have been taken back. Especially with this game's age some have compared it to the titles of the PS5 reveal. Showing that true dedication to a craft can enhance an entire game.
