Get those dice ready! Paramount and Hasbro have announced a live-action series of popular tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons is coming to Paramount Plus. The series, which is already greenlit for eight episodes on the streaming service, is based on the pilot script from filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber. He will also pick up director duties for the first episode.Per Deadline, who broke this news, the series comes as a collaboration between eOne and Paramount Pictures. A move that makes sense considering both are responsible for co-producing and co-financing the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film. Not to mention the fact that a live-action adaptation of the fantasy RPG has been a priority for eOne after its acquisition of Hasbro in 2019.Related: Magic: The Gathering Release Fatigue Leads To Plummeting Hasbro StockWith this new series rumored to be eOne’s “largest-scope TV project ever”, the studio hopes it will kickstart an entire Dungeons & Dragons universe. This would span multiple projects, including both scripted and unscripted shows. Can you imagine a Bachelor-esque show, but everyone must come as their D&D character? It’d be great!

This new series also comes at a time when Dungeons & Dragons has never been more popular in mainstream media. Thanks to shows like Stranger Things and Critical Role, the tabletop RPG is no longer just for “nerds”. Plus, if Honor Among Thieves is as successful as the studio hopes, then a live-action series could prove to be a massive hit.

Although, even if the feature film is a flop, the show may still be a hit with fans. Paramount Plus has already proven it can produce a good adaptation with its popular Halo series. Not to mention Thurber has shown he is a great filmmaker with his Red Notice film, which became the most-watched Netflix film of all time.
