The battle against Tiamat has not ended yet, as the Tyranny of Dragons storyline is being re-released to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons

Tyranny of the Dragons was originally the name of the storyline that covered two different Dungeons & Dragons adventures - Hoard of the Dragon Queen and The Rise of Tiamat. The story involved the machinations of the Cult of the Dragon, as they intended to summon Tiamat into the world. The two adventures combined would take players from level one to sixteen, assuming they survived the journey.

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that Hoard of the Dragon Queen and The Rise of Tiamat will be released together as part of a new special edition called Tyranny of Dragons. The book will feature new artwork for its cover that was created by Hydro74 (seen below), which shows the five heads of Tiamat.

Tyranny of the Dragons will also include concept art that was made during the development of both adventures and will include all of the errata that was issued in the years after they were released. The opening chapter of Hoard of the Dragon Queen has also been reworked, with general changes made to the overall campaign that was based on player feedback.

The fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons was released in 2014 and it has seen numerous campaigns in the past five years, many of which reference the classic campaigns from the previous editions. Curse of Strahd brought back one of the most iconic Dungeons & Dragons villains of all time, while Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage sent players back to Undermountain. Tiamat became a popular villain for a long time due to the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, where her presence as an unstoppable monster made even Venger cower in fear. Tiamat is one of the most powerful foes in the current edition of Dungeons & Dragons and the story of thwarting her cult can make for an incredible campaign.

The re-release of Tyranny of the Dragons will be released on October 22, 2019.
