Wizards of Coast has confirmed Dungeons & Dragons’ return to the Dragonlance setting will be coming on December 6, 2022. For the first time, you’ll also be able to buy physical and digital bundles, to ensure you have both the book and it available on D&D Beyond.

Dragonlance: Shadow Of The Dragon Queen is only one of two different Dragonlance releases happening in December, with it being joined by an integrated tabletop strategy game, Dragonlance: Warriors of Krynn.

Dragonlance is a setting full of large-scale war and conflict, with Shadow of the Dragon Queen and Warriors of Krynn both taking place in the early days of the War of the Lance and the first invasion of the Red Army Western Solamnia. Story-wise, Fifth Edition’s take on Dragonlance will only have a few connections to older releases, with it taking place in a different place and time.

Wizards emphasised that this is a new story in the setting, rather than a continuation of any older ones. That being said, it also confirmed that one of Dragonlance’s most famous villains will be playing a major role in Shadow of the Dragon Queen, with Lord Soth seen riding the book’s new type of dragon, an undead Death Dragon.

Following Wizards’ acquisition of digital storefront D&D Beyond earlier this year, Dragonlance will be the first time digital and physical bundles will be available. The bundles will not just include a physical and digital copy of Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen, but will also give you two weeks of early access to the digital edition, starting on November 22.

Alongside the base Shadow of the Dragon Queen bundle, there will also be a Deluxe Edition Bundle that groups together the physical and digital editions of Shadow of the Dragon Queen with a physical copy of the Warriors of Krynn game. It will include exclusive cover art and DM screens, and you’ll still get early access to the digital edition.

There’s a lot more going on with Dragonlance, particularly with Warriors of Krynn’s integration with Shadow of the Dragon Queen that allows you to transfer characters, stats, and outcomes of battles between the two for a fully-integrated campaign across both games.

Dragonlance: Shadow Of The Dragon Queen and Dragonlance: Warriors of Krynn launch on December 6.
