The Eberron campaign setting is teeming with cool areas to explore that are thematically unique compared to just about every other Dungeons & Dragons setting. This is just one of the many reasons why starting a campaign in Eberron can be one of the best ways to give your D&D game a fresh feel.

One of the defining characteristics of Eberron is that magic and technology are both sprinkled just about everywhere. Lightning rails and airships taken together with intriguing locations and landmarks make Eberron a world you will want to explore and learn more about. Several of these locations are must-visit places in Eberron and can offer dozens of gameplay sessions worth of content for your next campaign.

10 Arcanix, Khorvaire’s Premier Magic School

Arcanix is a famous school of magic and wizardry located in Aundaire. Arcanix consists of castles and towers, both grounded and floating above the green grassy plains. The Arcane Congress is also located at Arcanix, and they advise all nations of Khorvaire on everything related to magic. Importantly, Arcanix is not just for wizards. Sorcerers, clerics, and even artificers all have something to learn.

A trip to the Arcanix could be an important step in developing your character’s potential as a spellcaster. Adventures at Arcanix could also be a cool way to bridge an Eberron campaign to a Strixhaven campaign. The Strixhaven campaign is completely focused on “going to magic” school and it is likely that Strixhaven and Arcanix are aware of one another’s existence across the planes.

9 Graywall, Welcome To The City Ruled By Monsters

Graywall is a city in Droaam, located near the border to the nation of Breland. Graywall is considered the gateway into Droaam, and adventurers can expect to see a monster city full of goblins, gnolls, gargoyles, and even more foul creatures like its illithid mayor. They are mostly civilized... at least by monster standards.

Because of its shady nature, Graywall can be a useful destination for gathering intel on the latest schemes of the big bads in Khorvaire. They key to operating covertly in Graywall is knowing when it’s time to get out. Make a wrong move or lose your cover and you could quickly become a mindless illithid thrall.

8 Morgrave University, Sharn's Hall Of Scholars And Explorers

Standing tall in the Menthis Plateau region of Sharn, Morgrave University is the premier destination in Sharn for both scholars and adventurers looking to solve complicated problems and take on daunting challenges.

Although the professors and researchers at Morgrave University are quite capable themselves, they are also incredibly busy and would rather not put their lives in the face of certain danger when their work is always nearing a breakthrough. This means that they are always looking for high aptitude individuals to be “coerced” into exploring dangerous locations and testing their latest hypotheses.

7 Shaelas Tiraleth, A Feyspire In Chaos

A ruined city in the mournland with a felled warforged colossus resting against a tower

In Eberron, feyspires are manifestations of other plans that phase into the prime material plane. Many feyspires take the appearance of tall structures that seem to distort the land around them. Shaelas Tiraleth is an example of what happens when a feyspire becomes corrupted beyond rescue.

Shaelas Tiraleth is in the southernmost part of the Mournland and once served to connect the plane of Thelanis to Eberron. It was damaged during the catastrophe known as The Mourning. Few have ventured in since. Who knows how The Mourning affected the fey beings within or even if they still inhabit the feyspire? However, one thing is for sure: risk-taking adventurers will be rewarded with treasures beyond their wildest imagination.

6 Korranberg, The Capital Of Zilargo

Korranberg is the capital of the gnomish nation, Zilargo. Its great library is one of the deepest treasure troves of knowledge in Khorvaire, although the gnomes are not known for sharing. Korranberg is a clean city, with plenty of foliage decorating the stone streets.

There is plenty of mischief for players to get into while in Korranberg. Gnomish scholars pay adventurers well to travel into the nearby jungles in search of dragonshards and powerful artifacts. On the shadier side, perhaps you might even want to break into the great library of Korranberg. Just plan to expect powerful magical defenses and swift retaliation.

5 Korunda Gate, The Fortified Dwarven City

Korunda Gate is a dwarven fortress city that lies at the base of the Ironfoot mountains in the Mror Holds. It is considered the gateway to the ancient dwarven empire which spanned all the way from the mountain peaks into the depths below.

If you're looking for adventure in the cold northlands, Korunda gate is a great place to set your campaign. Although many of the vaults and mining structures below the city may hold treasures from dwarves of old, something more sinister is also said to be found under the city. The Kundarak dwarves have been delving closer to the corruptive magic of the Daell’kyr and it’s likely that they lurk below the city, patiently waiting for the right time to shoot their deceptive tentacles above ground.

4 The Chaotic Marketplace Of Stormreach

The bustling marketplace of the city of Stormreach in the continent of Xen’drik often leaves explorers overwhelmed, even upon return visits. Whatever type of item you are looking for that is exotic to Khorvaire, you will likely find it here. The market district is also home to two of the most important landmarks in the city: the airship docks and the Lorsmarch palace, where the Stormlords govern the city.

If your party is looking for any missing or smuggled goods, exploring the back alleys of the marketplace would be a good place to start. The marketplace also serves as a great base for adventuring in the continent of Xen’drik, even beyond the city of Stormreach.

3 The Draconic Observatories In Argonnessen

Argonnessen is one of the major continents in Eberron and is home to many majestic and powerful dragons. Deep within its tall mountains are dragons who have built large metal structures which they use to study the stars in attempt to interpret the draconic prophecy. These structures usually consist of metal towers surrounded by large floating orbs meant to mimic the movement of planets and stars.

The observatories of Argonnessen is a breathtaking destination for high-level parties (Lv 10-20). Perhaps your party has an urgent need to understand future events that can only be interpreted by the draconic prophecy. Just keep in mind that interrupting a dragon’s important work might bode poorly unless you have a really good reason.

2 Zarash'ak, The Orc City Deep In The Swamps

A screenshot of Laketown in The Hobbit movie

Eberron orcs are atypical in D&D. Many of them are wise sages and actually quite friendly. They are tasked with protecting the region of the Shadowmarches from evil encroaching from the plane of Xoriat. Zarash'ak is a small orcish city and unofficial capital of the Shadowmarches. Thematically it is very similar to Laketown in The Hobbit and could even serve as an outpost for players who want to solve ongoing problems in the region.

In Zarash'ak, players may be tasked with helping a group of orc warriors hunt demons or other foul creatures around the swamp. It’s also one of the best locations to learn more about the rich culture and traditions of Eberron orcs.

1 Regalport, The “Jewel Of The Lhazaar Sea”

The city of Regalport is the unofficial seat of power in the Lhazaar principalities and is located on the northeast side of the island of Greentarn. Regalport overlooks a deep-water bay and its shining marble buildings backdropped by a golden evening sky make the city a sight to behold.

If your party can handle uncertain, cutthroat environments, Regalport may be a place to visit. Piracy in all forms is rampant and you can become any type of plunderer, marauder, or swashbuckler you can dream of. Regalport is perhaps the largest hotbed of smuggled goods in the continent of Khorvaire, including exotic goods from Sarlona and Aerenal. If players can get a foothold in the smuggling industry, they would have a very powerful backdoor into the politics of not only Regalport, but all the nations of Khorvaire.
