The second boss of Dusk Diver 2’s fourth Chapter is quite the doozy. In fact, it is substantially more difficult than any boss you have fought so far. If there was a boss you were going to wipe too, it would be this one. Of course, we are talking about the monstrously unpleasant, Unknown Defence Weapons.

Unknown Defence Weapon is the last hurdle between you and your Chapter Four goals, and it is not going to go quietly. This boss is more than capable of laying down a disgusting amount of damage, across a wide area, without fear of retaliation. Fighting this guy like any other boss will lead to your doom.

Unknown Defence Weapon’s Attacks

Dusk Diver 2 Unknown Defence Weapon intro cutscene

Unknown Defence Weapon is a quadrupedal weapons platform. It is covered in ordinance, and it knows how to use it all. Unknown Defence Weapon also gains new attacks the more injured it is, so be prepared to adapt on the fly.

Aerial Attack

In the early fight, this is Unknown Defence Weapon’s most dangerous attack. It jumps into the air, hovers in place, and then rotates rapidly whilst flying towards your team. This attack can deal massive amounts of damage if you get caught in the spin.

Run away. This attack moves quickly, but can’t easily turn or steer. Quickly dodge to the side and get out of the way. You can then move in for a combo once it has landed.

Exploding Orb + Jump Attack

Exploding Orbs fire out of Unknown Defence Weapon’s legs leaving a lingering damage zone. Unknown Defence Weapon then jumps off-screen. After a short delay, Unknown Defence Weapon will slam on top of the player. Its landing location is marked in red on the ground.

Dodge away from the warning marker, and then land a quick combo as it recovers.

Rockets + Bombs + Aerial Attack

This is like Aerial Attack, only more dangerous. Unknown Defence Weapon unleashes a salvo of rocket and bomb attacks before spinning towards the player.

This attack is especially dangerous as the explosive salvo can stagger you - allowing for a free spin hit for even more damage. To counter this, you have to keep your combos very short. Three hits - maybe two skills. This will give you time to react and dodge if Unknown Defence Weapon uses this attack.

Unknown Defence Weapon has more attacks than this, but they mostly fall under the same category - and most of them unlock as your deal damage. Unknown Defence Weapon relies more and more on ranged attacks as the fight goes on, and these attacks are incredibly dangerous as the number of rockets and bombs launched per salvo also increases.

This makes fighting Unknown Defence Weapon incredibly difficult at all stages, and even when weakened, Unknown Defence Weapon doesn’t actually get weaker - it just changes up its style.

Which Party Members To Use

Dusk Diver 2 Viada using Break Strike

The only party member worth controlling in this fight is Viada. Unknown Defence Weapon has way too many ranged attacks - especially late in the fight - and this makes melee characters mostly worthless. Unknown Defence Weapon is more than capable of killing a character in a handful of hits, so getting close to it is not advised.

Viada has pistols, giving her the range advantage. She can stay safe, fire her pistols, and use her powerful ranged skills to chip away at Unknown Defence Weapon. Her allies can distract it in melee.

Battle Strategy

Dusk Diver 2 Yumo running away from unknown defense weapons spin attack

Unknown Defence Weapon has four legs, and each leg has its own health bar. Taking out a leg will reduce Unknown Defence Weapon’s defence bar by 25 percent - take out all of its legs, and you can instantly destroy Unknown Defence Weapon with a Break Strike.

This is easier said than done, since each leg is fairly tanky, Unknown Defence Weapon’s legs rotate a lot during the early fight with its various spin attacks, and getting close to even hitting them is dangerous.

Viada is the only character who can deal with Unknown Defence Weapon, so control her and spam your attacks and skills. Dodge away when Unknown Defence Weapon moves to attack you, and you should be fine.

This fight can take quite a while simply because Unknown Defence Weapon has a lot of health split over multiple targets. So long as you are using Viada, however, this fight should be won without much trouble. If Viada dies, then things start to go downhill quickly.

For this reason, bring revival items and curatives. BP potions are also excellent as they will increase your damage, shortening the fight nicely. It is unlikely you will be able to use your Burst Ultimate Attack, however.
