The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe has indeed changed, and it all started with the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The duo was put in charge of a faltering DCEU that had MCU-like ambitions, but Kingdom Hearts-like continuity. Even when the DCEU managed to put together a decent movie, the momentum would abruptly be halted thanks to either a subpar sequel, or issues behind the scenes. Gunn and Safran have a monumental task in front of them, and it appears that they want to start with a clean slate.

As spotted by Home of DCU on Twitter Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has unfollowed both Black Adam and Warner Bros. on Instagram. While on any other day nobody may have noticed this, with the DCEU currently cleaning house, it could mean that Johnson will be the next big name dropped from the extended universe. However, no official statement has been made by any of the parties involved.

In what appears to be a page straight out of The Tower of Babel, DCEU actors have been dropping like flies, probably in preparation for Gunn and Safran's new vision. The first one to officially be axed was Superman himself, Henry Cavill. DC fans were overjoyed when he made a cameo in Black Adam, and were elated when he officially confirmed his return to the role via a video. However, fans of Netflix's The Witcher were left disappointed, as it was abruptly announced that Cavill would leave the show after season 3.

It's unclear what exactly went down behind closed doors, but in what could only be called a cruel twist of fate, Cavill would not play the Man of Steel after all. “I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it’s sad news, everyone,” he posted on Instagram. “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

However, there will be a Superman, just not played by Cavill, as Gunn has previously said that the superhero will be a major crux for his vision for the DCEU.

Adding to the exodus is also Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, which will not be receiving a third outing after the disappointing performance of Wonder Woman 1984. Rumours initially suggested that Jenkins walked away from the project, however, the director later took to Twitter, saying “This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time.”

The rest of Jenkin's long note addressed what an honour it was for her to work alongside Lynda Carter and Gadot, and had a sense of finality to it, which suggested the end of Gadot's time as Wonder Woman.
