How To Find The Altar Chamber

The Secret Altar Chamber in Dying Light 2 that unocks Doom Easter Egg

Some Easter Eggs are only available to you after you progress to a certain point in the story, and the E1M1 Doom Easter Egg is no different. The Altar Chamber is located underneath the VNC Tower, which means you must be done with the “Broadcast” quest at the very least. After completing this mission, the tower will be available for free exploration.

To reach the Alter Chamber, head inside to the VNC Tower, and take the elevator to the basement level. Dive into the water, swim straight, open the yellow gate, and continue swimming.

Once you get out of the water, you’ll see a powered gate on the left side and a semi-open door on the right. Take the door on the right side. That will take you to a new elevator. Take it to Level Zero. This will take you to the secret altar, where you’ll be placing the Black Ducks.

The basement level of the VNC Tower in Dying Light 2

You’ll see five tables, five power boxes, and five power cords in this Doomesque room. Each box is powered by a Black Duck. Finding them all is the tricky part.

Don’t use fast-travel to exit the secret room! If you fast-travel out of the room, the elevator will be stuck at the bottom, and you won’t be able to call it back. There’s no other way leading to the altar.

All Five Black Duck Locations

A Black Duck Enjoying The View of Villedor in Dying Light 2

Prepare to run, jump and climb across Villedor, because each and every single one of these ducks is cleverly hidden (except for one). You’ll need all five of them to unlock the Doom mini-game, which also includes Easter Eggs for Star Wars and Zelda games.

Make sure you have at least a few immunity boosters before you venture out. Out of five, three of these ducks are found in highly contaminated areas.

Black Duck #1 - Houndfield

Aiden finds a Black Duck in Old Villedor in Dying Light 2.

The first Black Duck is found in the first part of the map in a district called Houndfield. The duck is located in a highly contaminated area, but it can be reached with just one big jump.

The surrounding area will burn through your immunity almost instantly, but the small spot where the duck is sitting is completely safe.

Black Duck #2 - The Wharf

Aiden locates a Black Duck in a sunken police car in Dying Light 2.

You can find the second Black Duck in The Wharf District locked inside a sunken police car on the northwestern side of the Wharf District. You can swim here, but the fastest way to get your hands on this evil duckie is to parkour your way to the Revenant Fight Arena and then climb the northern wall with barbed wire. You can spot the sunken police car from up top.

Black Duck #3 - West Of Garrison District

Dying Light 2's hero Aiden finds a Black Duck in a guard tower

The third Black Duck is located at the Mount Lucid Observatory. The duckie is inside a watchtower, which is directly on the right side of the observatory’s main entrance. You’ll need your trusty grappling hook to climb all the way up. The duck will be waiting for you to collect.

The observatory is right in the middle of a chemical zone. It's recommended to be extra careful, especially when you’re swinging around. One bad jump, and you may not be able to recover from it.

Black Duck #4 - Lower Dam Ayre

The fourth Black Duck is literally hiding in plain sight. The duckie is hanging out on the docks sitting on a skull, just enjoying the view of Newfound Lost Lands.

The duck is surrounded by chemical waste, so it's recommended to glide your way to it if you can. You can also jump around the waste and reach it, but it will be a riskier adventure, especially at nighttime.

Black Duck #5 - VNC Tower

A Black Duck hidden inside a safe on the top floor of VNC Tower

The fifth and final Black Duck is only accessible from the rooftop of the VNC Tower. You should leave it for last given how the Altar Chamber is also located beneath the tower.

Go to the lobby, and take the elevator to the rooftop. Once you leave the elevator you’ll see a blue perch sticking out. There is a room directly below that perch, jump off and hook yourself to the perch, then land inside the room through the open window.

The duckie is hidden inside the safe. The code to unlock to safe is: [6-6-6]. There’s also an inhibitor container inside the room alongside some other resources and valuables.

After you grab the last evil duckie, climb back up and take the elevator down to the basement. You can jump out of the room and glide your way to the lobby faster, but you’ll still have to call the elevator and wait for it to arrive. Taking the elevator down is the fastest way to reach the secret room from here.

How To Unlock The Doom Easter Egg

The Doom mini-game inside Dying Light 2

After collecting all the black ducks, you can finally head back to the Chamber. Once you return, you must place the ducks on the five tables. This will power the electric boxes and allow you to use the cables. Connect the cables to create a pentagram and voilà!

In the middle of the room, through the flames, a double-barrel shotgun will appear. Interacting with it unlocks the E1M1 Combat Challenge a.k.a. The Doom Easter Egg. Accepting the challenge will transform Dying Light 2 into a retro FPS, looking a lot like the original Doom game.

The double-barrel comes with infinite ammo, but sadly, you don’t get to keep it after you’re done with the challenge.

Most of your abilities and Nightrunner Tools will be taken away during the challenge. You can’t even jump, but to be fair, neither could you in the OG Doom. The only weapon you have at your disposal is the double-barrel shotgun, which will help you fend off all kinds of zombies while collecting the valuables.

However, there's even more to this pixelated recreation of Doom's first map! You can find two unique blueprints inside the mini-game and a letter to Doom's creators. It’s a refreshing experience being able to use an actual firearm in the game, plus the Easter Egg is well worth the time and effort.

How To Unlock The Star Wars Easter Egg

Star Wars Force Easter Egg in Dying Light 2

The Doom Easter Egg is a bit like a Matryoshka doll; it contains two more Easter Eggs hidden inside, and one of them allows you to use the Force Choke and make you feel like a powerful Sith. Blueprints in this mini-game can easily be missed given how the game becomes pixelated and blurry.

The Dying Force blueprint is right under one of the crystals you have to collect in the mini-game. It can be found in the bigger green arena filled with zombies.

How To Unlock The Zelda Easter Egg

Blueprint of Mistress Sword in Dying Light 2

The second blueprint is for a weapon called "The Mistress Sword", and can be found sitting on a box in a hallway with red lights. Both the design and the name of the weapon are a reference to the Master Sword from Zelda. You need 369 scraps to craft the weapon, but you should know that it doesn't do any damage at all.
