Dying Light 2 takes place 20 years after the events in Harran. Humanity lost the battle against the deadly virus and there are only a few human settlements left across the earth. The game’s new protagonist is Aiden Caldwell, a “Pilgrim” with exceptional parkour skills and a troubled past. He needs all the help he can get to survive in a giant decaying city known simply as “The City” and the UV Flashlight sure comes in handy to even the odds against the more dangerous infected types such as Volatiles and Virals.

The UV Flashlight is a returning item from the first game, however, it takes significantly longer to get your hands on it this time around. It’s one of the Nightrunner Tools players obtain mid-story and makes doing quests at night or in dark zones a lot easier. This guide details everything you need to know about The UV Flashlight.

How To Unlock The UV Flashlight In Dying Light 2

The UV Flashlight is weakening a Howler infected in Dying Light 2.

In the first game, The UV Flashlight is added to your inventory right after finishing the prologue. However, in Dying Light 2 you'll need to progress to a certain point in the story to get the UV Flashlight. It takes about 15 hours of gameplay to get to the point where you unlock it during a quest called “Welcome On Board”, provided you’re not going after every question mark that pops up on the map.

Worry not, for this item is essential to the story, therefore you can’t miss it. When you’re on The Missy —a ship that was grounded many years ago that also happens to be The Peacekeeper’s main HQ— you’ll meet with Jack Matt, their commander-in-chief. After a little chit-chat, he’ll send you to Meyer, and you’ll receive the UV Flashlight.

After getting the UV Flashlight, head to your inventory and equip it in the Accessory Quick Slot. Make sure to cycle through your accessories first, and then simply hold the assigned button to use it. The UV Flashlight in Dying Light 2 will stun and repel the infected, making them weaker against your attacks. Alternatively, you can use it as an escape mechanism in tight situations.

The UV flashlight can run out of power, even after a short usage, but its battery recharges over time. You can’t use your regular flashlight and the UV Flashlight simultaneously, and the latter will be quite weak when you first get it.

You can upgrade the UV Flashlight with Old War Money and Military Tech. This unique Nightrunner Tool comes at level one and can be upgraded to level three max. You can upgrade it at any Craftmaster at any settlement.

Level two upgrade requires two Military Techs and 1,000 Old War Money, meanwhile level three upgrade will ask for 2,000 Old War Money and two Military Techs. A fully upgraded UV Flashlight lights up a larger area, has more energy, and has faster recharge time. It also comes with a flashing effect that lights up pretty much everything in the direction you're facing for a brief time.
