I'll forgive you for forgetting this was even a game, but publisher Koei Tecmo has announced that Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires has been indefinitely delayed. Not wanting to rush out the title and repeat the disastrous launch of the regular Dynasty Warriors 9, the company made the choice to push things back so it could better iron out any issues that are cropping up. I applaud that move, especially since I enjoy the series and want it to get better.

No new release date has been given, but it seems likely that 9: Empires will still release this year. In a post on its official Twitter account, Koei Tecmo shared the opening cinematic for the game and it looks rather decent. I would imagine that the game is progressing nicely, but Koei Tecmo simply didn't want to repeat the same mistake as the base game.

It's a smart move now that developer Omega Force created possibly its two best games with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and Persona 5 Strikers. People are going to take notice and releasing a subpar installment in the Dynasty Warriors series would only bring negative attention to the company. Lu Bu needs to rise again, so bring on the delay.

That said, it would be nice to get some more information about how Empires is changing the formula of 9. For those out of the loop, 9 transformed the series into an incredibly lacking open-world game that removed the series' signature style. Since Empires is going back to smaller maps, it would be nice to see if the combat has been improved in any way. I guess there's not too much longer until we find out.
