E3, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo, started in 1995 and has been occurring annually ever since. At show, the biggest names in the industry let the press, fans, and anyone interested know about their upcoming projects. This year's show was like many of the others in the past, with big announcements and big news regarding upcoming releases. The one major difference was Sony's absence. For the first time in the event's history, the console giant steered clear. Fortunately, the other publishers picked up the slack, and there was no shortage of excitement.

There were too many new games to count, and several long-awaited titles finally got release dates, making those dreams come ever closer to tangible realities. The next ten entries will showcase ten games from the show, separated by release windows. Five of them are confirmed to come out this year, while others require a little more patience. Fortunately, many of the ones releasing after 2019 are still only a little further round the corner. A couple, however, don't even have release windows

Yu Suzuki's ambitious Shenmue games garnered a loyal cult following in the late 90's and early 2000's. Like many cult classics, the following never got big enough to warrant continuing the series. In 2015, the impossible came true, and Shenmue III was officially announced, along with a Kickstarter campaign that closed with over six million dollars raised. After this enthusiastic announcement, the game went quiet, only periodically popping up to confirm its existence. An August release date was set, but that was recently pushed back until November. Attendees were finally able to play it at the show this year.

Wolfenstein: The New Order and its sequel, The New Colossus, blew away people's expectations, delivering heart pounding fire fights along with a somber story, recalling dark alternate history novels like Man in the High Castle. Doom 3 is not a bad game, but it hardly felt like it belonged to the series. 2016's Doom brought the series back to its roots, while still making it feel fresh. Doom Eternal is doubling down on the commitment to the classic Doom carnage. Many reboots of classics will embrace modern conventions to varying degrees of success, but Doom knows what people want and how to give it to them. Impressions from the E3 show floor are confident that FPS fans will be happy come November 22nd.

Nintendo gave no release window for Breath of the Wild 2, since they probably have no idea when its coming out either. Thankfully, that game isn't the only thing Zelda fans have to look forward to. A remake of the Game Boy classic, Link's Awakening is coming to the Nintendo Switch in a few short months. Impressions from the show floor relay that this remake is bringing the unique spirit of the quirky spin off with it to the modern console.

Without Halo, it is difficult to say if the XBOX would have succeeded the way it did. The series isn't the titan that it once was, but that could change with Halo: Infinite ushering in the next generation of Microsoft.

They are aiming to launch the game side by side with Project Scarlett, letting gamers see the console's innovations through the eyes of Master Chief. Save for any potential delays, the game will be on store shelves by holiday 2020.
