Yes, E3 is still happening in June. That's according to ReedPop president Lance Fensterman who made statements following Ubisoft's wishy-washy commitment to E3 and Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo skipping the show.
"E3 is full speed ahead and we are pleased with the progress and engagement from the community," said Fensterman in a statement to The Verge. "As we have confirmed exhibitors we are eager to share more as details get cemented and participants ready their own detailed plans."
While E3 is still happening, it certainly won't be as big a show as in previous years. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will all be skipping this year's event. Nintendo said it simply didn't have enough games to show in order to both cobbling something together, while Microsoft has stated it will simply host its own summer showcase separate from E3.
Ubisoft will still be at E3 at least. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said during the French publisher's Q3 earnings call, "If E3 happens, we will be there, and we will have a lot of things to show." However, he certainly didn’t sound confident, and with the big three players skipping what used to be the biggest trade show in video games, it seemed like E3’s future was seriously in doubt.
Besides Ubisoft, we're still not sure who else will be appearing at E3 this year, although Fensterman said he'll be "sending our first round of media and content creator registration approvals" soon. He also said that ReedPop typically doesn't announce participants until closer to an event's start, but he'll be adjusting "our style to the E3 way as we can." Fensterman said he'll "have news to share in the next few weeks on some of the exciting new additions to the Remastered E3 2023."
Remastered certainly seems to be the operative word here. E3 will be very different this year than in previous years, with fewer big companies backing the event and a day reserved for "partnered digital events and showcases." Geoff Keighley also won't be presenting as he'll be hosting Summer Games Fest, which will return on June 8.
