EA is reviving the critically acclaimed boxing series Fight Night. It has been dormant since 2011 meaning that it's been dead for two console generations now.

As reported by VGC, insiders close to EA Sports report that Fight Night - currently under the alias of 'Moneyball' - has been greenlit. It's allegedly in development but the focus right now is on EA Sports' UFC game, so it's unlikely we'll get a new Fight Night anytime soon.

Reportedly, a studio-wide e-mail was sent throughout EA Canada that told the team they would be working on UFC 5 for the "foreseeable future." It's set to launch later next year and EA doesn't want the studio to be juggling two games. Understandably, this means that development - while greenlit - has been put on pause.

"We're very excited about UFC 5 and... we want to eliminate the split focus that several members of our leadership team have had over the past so we can solely focus on delivering migration and UFC 5 at high quality," the email read.

Fight Night began in 2004 as a spiritual successor to Knockout Kings, another EA Sports boxing title that debuted on the original PlayStation and N64. It was succeeded the next year with Round 2, and then the year after with Round 3, and then three years later with Round 4. It came to a close two years later in 2011 with the final Fight Night game in over a decade - Champion.

They were renowned on launch for their ahead-of-time graphics and often topped sales charts, but the series never got picked up afterwards - that is until now.
