The Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition has arrived right in time for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters in only a few days. Available for purchase as of December 5, this new edition features all content and customization since the original release in November of 2017 to now. As of December 17, this will also include everything from the Rise of the Skywalker content update.

In total, purchasing the Celebration Edition will include:

  • Base Game - Including all past and upcoming free game updates as they release
  • More than 25 Hero Appearances, including six Legendary Appearances
  • More than 125 Trooper and Reinforcement Appearances
  • More than 100 Hero and Trooper Emotes and Voice Lines
  • More than 70 Hero and Trooper Victory Poses.

Players who already own the base game can pay a smaller amount to upgrade and receive everything listed above, while EA Access members will receive the update for free.

With a new film come new Hero appearances, this time from Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren. This will tie in nicely to a new co-op mode that features Heroes versus Villains in a jungle planet that for now remains nameless, but that should change on December 20 once the Star Wars movie officially releases in theaters. New reinforcements are also inbound, among them the Infiltrator class Sith trooper of the First Order, a new Gunner, Spy, and finally a First Order Jet Trooper.

The release of this Celebration Edition seems like great value for the price and is a stark contrast to the initial launch of the game when EA earned itself a terrible reputation for its handling of microtransactions through loot boxes. The company is still making headlines for its controversial decisions, particularly in Europe where EA has been contesting any discussions that would limit the sale of such loot boxes to children.

Two years following its rocky launch, the game is in a great place in terms of character balance and now boasts hundreds of items through which one can customize a character to appear unique, or at least, to lower the odds of finding an identical looking player.

The release of the Celebration Edition may instead signal the end of major content updates for the game, which would be a logical conclusion since episode IX is the close of the Skywalker saga. Since Disney is moving forward with a new, non-Skywalker based trilogy beginning in 2022, and the next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles will have launched by then, it would make sense to see the next game in the series, Star Wars: Battlefront III, released in the coming years.
