After a seven-year hiatus, EA Sports is finally working on another college football game. A release date for the title is yet to be revealed.

The announcement from EA Sports was brief, tweeting out a single sentence along with an embedded image:

EA Sports College Football made a Twitter account back in December but has remained silent until today's announcement. Based on recent statements from Daryl Holt, EA Sports vice president, it's unlikely the game will launch in time for the 2021 college football season.

"As we look for the momentum that we're building on in sports, it all starts with the passion of our fans and the opportunities of what they are interested in," said Holt. "I don't think a visit where I go outside wearing a piece of EA Sports branded apparel, that someone doesn't go, 'Hey, when is college football coming back?'"

The team is apparently in the early stages of development, but Holt is hopeful the team will put together a game that will live up to players' expectations. "So we make sure we deliver what our college football game players would want in a game. And that starts with just a very immersive experience and there's lots of things we can do to bring the true college gameplay and game day to the virtual world."

EA Sports' last college football game was released in 2013, featuring Michigan QB Denard Robinson. It pulled in mixed reviews from most critics, with many enjoying the on-field gameplay but flinching at the dated visuals and laggy multiplayer experience.

EA Sports College Football is in development but is yet to receive a release date.
