Many had a feeling that publisher Electronic Arts would be returning to Steam as a venue for their games after a few hints surfaced in the form of test games and the appearance of a few select EA games on the digital marketplace. Now, it appears this might become a reality after a tweet recently posted by EA's Twitter account.

As indicated previously, EA's return to the platform had been foreshadowed by an apparent recent update of Dragon Age 2 and the spotting of Mirror's Edge Catalyst in a Steam UI update. This, along with a couple of other indicators, implied that EA's hiatus from Steam would soon come to an end.

Now, a coy tweet from EA has confirmed that their games would be coming back to the popular platform.

The tweet above is simply a nine-second video that shows a mug with the EA logo. However, steam can be seen emanating from the mug's contents, be it tea, coffee, or hot water. One could take it at face value, but given recent events and EA's long absence from Steam, this is meant to be taken as a confirmation of EA's games returning to Steam.

As for what EA titles will be brought to Steam, that remains unclear. If EA's relationship with Steam develops such that the Origin launcher will be compatible with Steam, then theoretically most, if not every, EA games will be accessible through Steam. Otherwise, EA games purchasable through Steam are up for debate, though Mirror's Edge Catalyst is clearly among them, as well as 2009's lesser-known The Saboteur.

Many have been hoping for The Sims and The Sims 2 to be made available on a digital marketplace, so it's possible fans will see those titles and other older EA games through Steam.

EA's desire to come back to Steam is also interesting to consider. It is possible they are trying to reach out to a broader audience, which can be found on Steam as one of the most popular PC digital platforms. Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see what direction EA takes with Steam going forward.
