EA revealed that they may just have the answer to the PUBG phenomenon that is sweeping gaming, but is it a Battle Royale game of their own?

EA recently held their shareholder call on Tuesday where a lot of things got discussed, such as the revelation that there’s a new Dragon Age in the works and that there’s a mysterious new Battlefield that will release in fall at the expense of Anthem releasing in early 2019.

According to Gamespot, Andrew Wilson, EA’s CEO, also had a lot to say about the Battle Royale phenomenon that is gobbling up first-person shooter players like it’s going out of style. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds recently hit 30 million copies sold and 3 million concurrent players on PC. Those kinds of numbers are hard for big corporations to ignore.

But EA was a mum on the prospect of creating their own Battle Royale game even as they praised PUBG for its "new and innovative ways to play”.

"I think what you discover in this industry is that there's a lot of great vectors that drive player engagement, and one of those is just innovation in the core gameplay mechanic," Wilson said during the call. "What the team with PUBG have done is really delivered a new level of innovation that changed the way people were playing first-person shooter games. And we're very respectful and complimentary of what they've been able to do. We've seen that continue with Fortnite. It's clearly a mode of play that the global FPS population is interested in."

"And given that we have some of the best shooters in the marketplace, you might expect that we're also thinking about new and innovative ways to play," he added. "And that doesn't mean just kind of [making] PUBG replicas inside the Battlefield universe, but it does mean that our Battlefield teams--and I talked a little about this in the prepared remarks--are looking at how they innovate in every aspect of the game, including core gameplay and map design."

So, no new EA version of PUBG, per se, but there is this mysterious new Battlefield coming out this fall. Dollars to donuts says it will ship with a Battle Royale mode no matter what it turns out to be.
