Well, either Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon is just a big movie buff or the iconic Xenomorph is making its way to Mortal Kombat 11.

Now, Mortal Kombat has never been a family-friendly franchise. There’s something about spine-ripping, limb-lopping, eyeball-juggling antics that some people tend to find a little on the objectionable side. With each new installment, the fatalities become ever more grim and horrific, to the point we’ve long since surpassed Itchy and Scratchy levels of gratuitous brilliance.

There’s no such genre as a horror-fighter, of course, but Mortal Kombat is about as close to that as we’ll get. It’s not just about the brutal battles and fatalities, but the general macabre air the franchise gives off.

As a result of these sorts of leanings, it’s no surprise that the series has seen cameos from a variety of iconic horror movie villains. The likes of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees have appeared as guest kombatants in the past, adding their own unique brand of violence to the mix. Freddy Krueger even sported a fatality inspired by the manner in which he killed Johnny Depp’s character in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Another cinema icon that has been represented in the series is the fearsome xenomorph of the Alien movies. True to form, it was a powerful, cunning fighter in Mortal Kombat X, where it made its debut as part of the second Kombat Pack. Now, it looks as though this perfect life form is returning for the new game.

As we reported earlier this week, Ed Boon has been tantalizing fans with some cryptic tweets, suggesting that he’ll reveal some of Mortal Kombat 11’s DLC characters next week… probably. If this follow-up tweet is anything to go by, it looks as though the alien is going to be among them:

Well, that’s about as direct as you can be without being… direct. What will this mean, then? Are we looking at a bit of a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate style EVERYBODY IS HERE situation where all of the guest stars return? Is it just our fan-favorite buddy xenomorph? Is Boon simply a fan of Aliens (which is, as he rightly says, a darn brilliant movie)? All we can do is sit tight and hope he feels like explaining himself soon.
