The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen hinted at the possibility of more DLC for the game.

The Binding of Isaac is a game that cannot and will not be stopped. Ever. First released back in 2011, This super macabre indie roguelike looks a little insubstantial at first glance. As the faithful know, though, it’s a game that you can sink hundreds of hours into. Veterans of the game may think they’ve seen everything there is to see, but they’re not even close.

Originally a flash title, The Binding of Isaac was constrained by the limitations of the platform. McMillen wasn’t expecting major sales but was happy to take a risk following the success of Super Meat Boy. When The Binding of Isaac really took off, it was clear that it needed more room to breathe and grow. He teamed up with Nicalis to bring us The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in 2014, which was followed by Afterbirth the next year. In January 2017, Afterbirth+ dropped.

All of these content packs have expanded the Isaac experience severalfold. New characters, enemies, items, powers and more were thrown into the mix, further emphasizing the whole every-run-will-be-completely-different thing that is the crux of the experience. With Afterbirth+’s release, it was thought that the game is essentially complete, but McMillen has hinted that there could be yet another new slew of content coming.

In an online Q and A over on the game’s official site, McMillen was asked whether he was done with The Binding of Isaac, whether there would be no more DLC. He gave a curious answer:

“I did say many times this was going to be the last Isaac DLC.. and at the time I strongly believed it. But there seems to be something pretty cool on the horizon, it's creeping up slowly… It’s familiar but a bit different and it’s being held up by a group of people… when I squint I think I can make out a… oh, sorry, I gotta go, there is someone watching me in my space ship.”

So, all in all, nothing we wouldn’t expect from the always-colorful Team Meat alumni. McMillen’s always one to be a little snarky, not give straight answers and generally give zero effs. Despite the rest of the statement being a little shonky, it is an interesting response

Things change, as the man himself says, and if the time wasn’t ripe for more content then, maybe it is now? Or will be in the near future? The Binding of Isaac’s fanbase is one of the most enthusiastic, committed and loyal around, and even the possibility of new upcoming content will be a tremendously exciting one.

While nothing’s officially confirmed, fans will want to keep a close eye on the cryptic words of the lord and master McMillen in the near future, in case he lets anything else slip. In the interim, he stated earlier this month that his next project, The Legend of Bum-bo (a puzzle/RPG spin-off of  Isaac), is delayed.
