Few civilizations, however, have left a mark on history quite like that of Ancient Egypt.

12 Ankh: Curse Of The Scarab King

Inspired by point-and-click legend Monkey Island, Ankh sees you play as Assil, the son of Cairo's most well-known and well-respected architect. Ankh, however, is more well-known for his lavish parties with one seeing him accidentally break an urn and disturb a mummy. Naturally, the ornery mummy punishes Assil with a 24-hour death curse.

Seeking to rid himself of the curse, the player must journey with Assil through Cairo's ancient streets as you explore the lavish town and puzzling pyramids. It's full of humor and fun with some groan-worthy Egyptian jokes and more than 80 puzzles to test your wits.

11 The Forgotten City

While this game has a solidly Roman and Greek base, there are aspects of Egyptian mythology that manage to fall through the cracks and make their own appearances in The Forgotten City - though it may take a while to get there.

The presence of Egyptian mythology here won't be a big surprise to the historians amongst you, as it's well-established that the religions of the Ancient Greeks, the Romans, and Egyptians informed and drew from each other.

10 Smite

Smite is a MOBA with a cast absolutely full of gods from various mythologies, and that includes Egyptian the pantheon. Smite does a great job of respectfully porting these figures into the game and making them feel unique.

Of all the pantheons in the game, the Smite's roster of Egyptians is one of the largest. You can play as the obvious picks such as Osiris and Anubis, but the game also takes care to include a few of the lesser-seen figures, such as Neith and Geb.

9 Strange Brigade

A fantastic game to play with up to 4 friends, Strange Brigade, sees you embark on a rip-roaring 1930's trip through exotic Egyptian lands. Players encounter frightening enemies, ancient traps, and (hopefully) recover some tantalizing treasure.

Your mission is to stand up to the fearsome power of Seteki -- the witch queen awakened from her nameless tomb after 4,000 years. Luckily, your daring group of heroes has arrived just in time to stop her along with her "strange brigade" of mummified monstrosities.

8 Kamigami No Asobi

If you're looking for something slightly different, then look no further than Visual Novel and Dating Sim Kamigami No Asobi. Instead of fighting or discovering the secrets of the Egyptian gods, you date them.

In Kamigami No Asobi, you play as high-school student Yui Kusanagi who finds herself before the Greek god Zeus. He wants her to become an instructor in his new "Academy of the gods". Yui is given one year to educate and reform the young deities lest she is trapped in Zeus' realm forever. Featuring some well-known Greek and Norse faces, players also find the Egyptian deities Anubis, the god of lost souls, and Thoth, god of writing and wisdom.

7 Sphinx And The Cursed Mummy

A cult favorite from the PS2, Sphinx And The Cursed Mummy is a 3D platformer. Players portray both Sphinx and his reluctant friend The Mummy as they travel the world via magical portals. The goal? To foil the evil plans of Set, the god of Chaos.

Playing with Sphinx, you are able to face down mythical Egyptian monsters with an array of special powers, including the use of scarab beetles. His ally, The Mummy, is used when combat isn't an option. He can utilize his stealth and other unconventional talents to solve puzzles and sabotage the enemy's front lines.

4 Egyptian Senet

A slightly different addition to the list, Egyptian Senet is believed to be the oldest game in existence. A two-player board game invented by the Egyptians roughly 3500 - 5000 years ago for the enjoyment of both royalty and peasantry alike.

Available to play on Steam, it's believed to be a representation and metaphor for the afterlife. With the pawn moving across the board representing the soul as it journeys through the layers of the netherworld after death, and the last square being Horus, who would guide Egyptians into the afterlife and let them attain rebirth.

3 Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

The fourth game in the original Playstation franchise saw adventurer and archaeologist Lara Crost traversing the temples and tombs of Ancient Egypt in order to imprison Set, the god of Chaos, whom she accidentally set free.

In this fourth installment, we follow Lara as she explores a variety of places. She visits The Temple of Sekhmet in Karnak, the great pyramid of Giza, an archaeological dig at Cleopatra's palaces in Alexandria, and even the capital of Cairo. Fans may even remember this was the game that saw Lara's presumed death after locking Seth away after developers felt the character was growing stale. Luckily, she was brought back to life and consoles fairly quickly.

2 Sid Meier's Civilization 5

Civilization 5 is a turn-based strategy game that sees you working to establish and lead a civilization from the dawn of man all the way to journeying up into space. To do this, you'll need to incite war, conduct diplomatic meetings, discover new technology, and go head-to-head with some of history's great leaders all in a bid to build the most powerful empire on the globe.

Rameses is seen as one of the best leaders in the title to play with the Egyptians using different historically accurate components such as Burial Tombs and War Chariots. So get ready to lead your Egyptian people to victory. After all, they became the oldest surviving civilization for good reason.

With the many countries and eras Assassin's Creed has chosen to immortalize over the years, it's no wonder Ancient Egypt became one of its best.

Leading the protagonist Bayek through the bustling villages and markets of Cairo, sailing down the Nile, and uncovering the mysteries of the pyramids and forgotten myths in this open-world adventure is an extraordinary experience for players and Egyptology fans alike. Assassin's Creed Origins gave players such a realistic view of Ancient Egypt in fact, that Egyptologists have even been using it to teach Egyptian history. Go Ubisoft.
