Garoo is the second character you’ll unlock while playing Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. Like some other characters in the game, he’s an anthropomorphic animal. However, this one is based on a kangaroo and carries a big sword — such as the classic anime trope.

When Garoo joins your party he won’t only impact your story, but also change how the game is actually played. That’s why we have created this guide to let you know how to unlock this character and what are his features.

Garoo’s First Appearance

You’ll spot this character doing some suspicious actions way before you have a chance to use him. During Main Quest 3: Old Shiva’s Clock Tower, you’ll be looking for a Great Tree for the old man at the Plaza. When traveling through the cave area, you’ll reach another part of the Great Forest. Here Garoo will make an appearance and interact with CJ for the first time.

However, Garoo won’t be playable until the end of Main Quest 5: The Miner, the Merc, and the Smithy. At the beginning of this quest, you’ll visit the Quarry, a place that looks like a mine and is full of creatures and resources.

While going through here, you’ll have to reach a blocked path with a huge rock. CJ will try to hit it, but her blades will get chipped. Back to town, Hogan will tell you about Tatara, the blacksmith, who will give you a Pickaxe Lv. 1 and ask you to bring three Ores from the Quarry.

There are three stones all together in the section in which you descend a few meters through some platforms — on the left of the huge stone from before.

Go back to that region and find the Ores by breaking smaller rocks. Once you have all of them, return to Tatara and the Smithy will be opened. Also, Garoo will enter the scene, and he’ll end up joining your party.

Garoo Overview

Garoo jumping.

Garoo is a much slower and heavier character than CJ. He takes more time to advance through the scenarios and in doing actions like attacking. However, you’ll end up liking Garoo because he deals significantly more damage than our protagonist — and he’s able to break that big boulder you found in the Quarry.

As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to unlock new moves and abilities for Garoo. He can charge his jumps to reach higher platforms, perform parries, and also charge his basic attack.

To get these upgrades, you’ll need to upgrade this character’s equipment in the Armor Shop and in the Weapon Shop.

But that’s not all. As soon as Garoo is playable, you’ll unlock Link Attacks, one of Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising main mechanics. Basically, you’ll be able to chain attacks and freeze time by swapping between Garoo and CJ with the press of a button at the right time.
