Saddle up, partner. Indie game developer Honig Studios has released a brand-new gameplay teaser trailer for its upcoming spaghetti-western, El Hijo - A Wild West Tale.

Players can expect a mischievous good time in El Hijo - A Wild West Tale, which puts a delightful and playful spin on stealthy gameplay.

El Hijo - A Wild West Tale tells the story of a farmer and her son whose homestead is attacked by bandits. For fear of her son’s safety, the mother drops young “El Hijo” on the steps of a secluded monastery. However, the monastic life is not the type of life that El Hijo wishes to pursue, so he instead escapes the walls of the monastery in search of his mother.

Along the way, he’ll encounter bandits and other desperadoes that he’ll need to avoid using stealth actions and trickery. However, what makes El Hijo - A Wild West Tale different from other stealth titles is that rather than resorting to violence of any kind, the game will focus more on exploration and strategy using the “mischievous, playfulness of a young child.” Shadowplay will also play a large role in the stealth action, with plenty of shadowy, lowkey areas available for El Hijo to hide in.

The gameplay teaser trailer reveals a charming semi-top-down perspective with tactics that are highly reminiscent of Untitled Goose Game. Obviously, this is a pretty high compliment given Untitled Goose Game’s universally praised success. Players appear to be able to take part in western shootouts, hoe downs, and barbeques, while also encountering puzzles that El Hijo has to solve along his journey. However, El Hijo - A Wild West Tale also seems to convey a heartfelt narrative about a boy in search of his mother through the treachery of the outlawed wild west.

No firm release date has been revealed yet, but El Hijo - A Wild West Tale will eventually release for PC via Steam. Interested players can, however, add the upcoming title to their Steam Wishlists right now.
