I don't think anyone will be surprised to hear that Elden Ring was the best selling game of February. Even wedged in an already crowded release window, it was easily the most hyped game of the bunch. But what is impressive is that it's also managed to fend off every other 2022 release, opening at the very top of the list for best selling games the year so far. It takes the first place spot from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with its impressive sales making it the best selling game of 2022 before FromSoft's behemoth launched in late February. This also means Horizon Forbidden West opens at number three, not quite stealing second place from Pokemon. These figures come from the US charts, combining physical and digital sales. However, it is worth noting that Nintendo doesn't actually disclose its digital sales, so all of its games on the charts, including Legends: Arceus, may have in fact sold much more. It's not known if this would be enough to nudge Legends: Arceus back into the top spot. It was still enough to take second place away from Horizon Forbidden West, however. It still had an impressive debut month, finishing just behind Elden Ring in the monthly charts. But it does seem that the release of Elden Ring caused the long-awaited sequel to be overlooked, with its sales dipping by 80 percent in the UK since Elden Ring's launch week. Even the release of Gran Turismo 7 hasn't been enough to beat the Soulslike in the region.
It's not great news for Nintendo across the board, however. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl has fallen all the way the 16th place, below titles such as FIFA 22, Call of Duty: Vanguard and Dying Light 2.
While Elden Ring continues to enjoy critical and commercial success, not everyone is overly happy. As we reported earlier today, players have come across a totally useless item, the Longtail Cat Talisman. It's meant to prevent fall damage, which sounds fantastic. Maybe we'll all stop falling for those "try jumping" messages, right? Well, no. It doesn't actually stop you from dying at all. It just means that jumping from a slightly risky height won't eat into your health. Not great.
