Are you playing Elden Ring and getting tired of the same old bleed builds and sorceries? Well, perhaps you’d care to try your hand at a bit of pyromania. Fire damage isn’t necessarily the premier damage type in Elden Ring, but it can be buffed by multiple different sources. Consider the Flame, Grant Me Strength incantation, which buffs any weapon that deals both physical and fire damage doubly, and the Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear.

It’s worth noting that there are several weapons that deal fire damage, like Mohgwyn’s Spear or Rivers of Blood, that are really bleed weapons, and you probably don’t need us to tell you how strong those are. Instead, we’ll focus on weapons that deal fire damage as one of their primary functions.

Updated March 7, 2023, by Lucas Ellinas: With Elden Ring’s first DLC finally confirmed, you might be feeling the itch to get back into the game. Whether you want to touch up your skills and or plan your character for the DLC, if you feel like engaging in a bit of pyromania, this is the list for you. We’ve even updated it to include a few more options for you to choose from.

Unlike many of the weapons on this list, the Devourer’s Scepter’s weapon skill is somewhat underwhelming. Devourer of Worlds (great name) drains the health of nearby enemies, and can put in a lot of work if you’re surrounded… assuming you can get it off. It’s extremely easy to get staggered out of the weapon skill, making it impractical to use.

The weapon itself, though, does a lot of damage if you invest the stats necessary to wield it. If all you care about is hitting things very hard, the Devourer’s Scepter could be what you’re looking for. You can get the weapon early in the game by killing Bernahl while he is still at the Warmaster’s Shack in Stormhill. If you don’t get it there, you’ll have to wait until Bernahl invades you in Crumbling Farm Azula.

The Grafted Dragon is probably one of the first Remeberance weapons you'll get, assuming you kill Godrick first. This weapon doesn’t have quite the same gravitas as the version you see Godrick wield, but don’t let that fool you. The weapon skill, Bear Witness!, deals impressive damage if you can land it, and is especially good against large bosses. If you stand below them and cast it, far more of the fireballs it creates will find their target. And it’s tough for them to avoid standing in the lingering flames left by the fireballs that do hit the ground.

It must be noted that, unlike most fist weapons, the Grafted Dragon can’t be dual-wielded with just one copy. However, once you reach New Game Plus and kill Gorick for a second time, you can equip one Grafted Dragon in each hand. Now both your hands are dragons. Take that, Godrick.

Compared to some of the other weapons on this list, the Troll’s Hammer deals a relatively low amount of fire damage, and overall can seem underwhelming when compared to other Colossal weapons. However, the Troll’s Hammer does have some advantages on its side. It is tied as both the lightest Colossal weapon and the one with the lowest Strength requirement.

As for the Weapon Skill, you are unfortunately stuck with the one that comes with the weapon: Troll’s Roar. However, while that limits your options, Troll’s Roar can deal massive damage if you build around it with boosts like the Roar Medallion and the passive effect of the Highland Axe.

The Troll’s Hammer is far from overpowered, and it’s locked into a fairly specific niche. But if that niche appeals to you, the weapon is worth taking a look at. Getting it isn’t especially difficult either; you can find it around the middle of the game, after reaching the Altus Plateau. It’s in a shed at the bottom of the Old Altus Tunnel.

Whips are somewhat underwhelming in Elden Ring, and the Magma Whip Candlestick is no exception. It’s not even the best fire-based Whip, being beaten out in damage and range by a weapon higher on this list. However, it does have a completely unique (and fun) Weapon Skill. Sea of Magma does exactly what it sounds like; you wave the whip around your head and march forward, leaving pools of magma as you go. The damage from the magma, combined with the damage of the whip itself, can result in impressive numbers.

You’ll get the Magma Whip Candlestick after doing a favor for everyone’s favorite NPC, Patches. If you progress the Volcano Manor questline far enough, Patches will ask you to invade and kill Great Horned Tragoth. Do so, and he’ll give you the weapon (you will have to press him a bit). The necessity of this quest chain does mean the Magma Whip Candlestick is missable. If you kill Patches before doing his assassination quest, or if you finish the Volcano Manor questline abruptly by killing Rykard, the weapon won’t be available.

The Magma Blade is mostly a strength weapon, but the weapon skill, Magma Shower, scales entirely on faith and can shred through enemies. Weapons that deal fire damage are often slow and heavy, but the Magma Blade is a curved sword, making it a great option if you want speed on your side.

Unfortunately, the Magma Blade is one of the trickier weapons on this list to acquire. To get it, you’ll need to farm the Man-Serpents who wield it in Volcano Manor, and the drop rate is extremely low. If you really want to get your hands on this weapon, you might be in for quite the grind, especially if you’re planning on dual-wielding it.

You can increase the odds of the weapon dropping by using the Silver Pickled Fowl Foot consumable, which can be purchased from various merchants or crafted yourself.

Vyke’s War Spear does deal a significant amount of Fire damage, which means it benefits from all the options Elden Ring has to boost the damage type. But that’s probably not why you’re interested in this weapon. It is the only regular weapon in the game that causes Madness buildup (the Frenzied Flame Seal and Fingerprint Stone Shield can both cause the status effect if you decide to attack with them). Its aggressive Weapon Skill, Frenzyflame Thrust, launches you into the air, and lands with an explosion of Madness-inflicting fire. It’s undoubtedly one of the coolest weapons in Elden Ring.

Unfortunately, Madness doesn’t work against the vast majority of non-invader enemies, so it’s mostly going to be limited to PvP. If you want to do some PvP, though, Vyke’s War Spear can be found during Irina/Hyetta’s questline. Festering Fingerprint Vyke will invade you at the Church of Inhibition, in Liurnia of the Lakes. Defeat him, he’ll drop both the Festering Fingerprint Grape you’ll need to give to Hyetta, and his signature spear.

The Cranial Vessel Candlestand was created by a man who cut off his own head and had the other Fire Monks stick it on a candlestand, in an effort to stop them from being lazy. And it may have worked, since they’ve kept it around this long. Regardless, it’s a powerful weapon, dealing impressive damage thanks to B scaling in both Strength and Faith when fully upgraded.

The unique skill is somewhat situational, since it’s extremely slow, but unlike the Devourer’s Scepter, the Surge of Faith deals massive damage and isn't so easy to get staggered out of. It’s clunky, but it can absolutely wreck larger bosses that can’t avoid it.

The Giant’s Red Braid is often overlooked, both because “some hair” can feel like an underwhelming reward after felling the Fire Giant, and because it’s a whip. The broad perception of whips is that they’re pretty bad, largely because of their inability to inflict critical hits.

But the Giant’s Red Braid is a great weapon, and not just for a whip. It scales with Strength, has the longest range of any weapon in the class, and has an exceptional weapon skill in Flame Dance. The skill swings the whip in a wide area around you, allowing you to take out large swathes of enemies all at once.

5 Giant’s Seal

Alright, so the Giant’s Seal, found in Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave, doesn’t actually deal fire damage. As a seal, it allows you cast incantations, some of which deal fire damage. Still, if you’re going to make a fire build you're going to put levels into Faith, so you’ll probably want to use damage-dealing incantations at least every once in a while. And in that case, this is the seal you want to use to cast them.

It grants a 20 percent buff to the damage of Giant’s Flame and Fire Monk incantations, with the notable exceptions of Flame Sling, Fire’s Deadly Sin, and Catch Flame. Whether it’s your primary tool or a sidearm for picking off particularly annoying enemies before they get close to you, the Giant’s Seal is a great option.

The magnificently-named Magma Guillotine, aside from letting you look awesome as you launch yourself through the air, is nearly impossible to interrupt and deals a massive amount of damage when it lands. Combined with the follow-up hits, the skill will stagger many enemies. As a bonus, you can aim the initial leap, allowing you to dodge enemy attacks in both PVE and PVP.

Whether you consider the Sword of Night and Flame a fire damage weapon is a matter of opinion. Its whole shtick lies in its duality, in the confluence of magic of the stars and of fire. Its damage is split between physical, magic, and fire damage, and its unique weapon skill, the Night-and-Flame-Stance, allows you to switch between a laser beam and a swathe of flame.

The weapon skill did get nerfed fairly substantially, but the Sword of Night and Flame remains an exceptionally powerful and versatile weapon. And the best part is, you can find it extremely early in the game, within Caria Manor.

The Godslayer's Greatword, found in a chest after killing the Godskin Apostle in the Divine Tower of Caelid, is a somewhat unusual addition to this list. Other than Faith, its primary stat is Dexterity rather than Strength. So, if you’re a Dexterity player who wants to set the Lands Between ablaze, this is the weapon for you.

Additionally, the Godslayer's Greatsword uses Blackflame of the Godskin Nobles instead of regular fire. Blackflame is an incredibly powerful status effect, continuing to eat away at the enemy’s health over time. And don’t worry, it still benefits from all of your fire-damage buffs.

The sword of Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, the Blasphemous Blade, isn’t just one of the best fire weapons in Elden Ring; it’s one of the best weapons in the game, period. It heals you after killing an enemy, a useful effect when exploring the Lands Between. The weapon skill, Taker’s Flames, launches a blast of fire in a line before you, healing you for a percentage of the damage it deals (which is a lot) and knocks down anything that can be knocked down at a range that’s further than you might expect.

The only downside to the weapon is its appearance, a problem that seems to affect many of Elden Ring’s fire-based weapons for some reason. The Blasphemous Blade, as is befitting its heretical nature, is particularly off-putting, covered in creepy, grasping little hands. If you can get past that (or maybe that’s your thing, no judgment), then you’ll be in possession of one of the most powerful weapons in the Lands Between.
