Sir Gideon Ofnir is located inside the Erdtree Sanctuary in Leyndell, Capital of Ash. The boss is not optional and is necessary to complete the game and any ending. You can summon online players as well as Spirit Ashes to help you in this boss fight. Sir Gideon is one of the lowest health bosses in the game, making the fight relatively easier.

The boss is weak to Hemorrhage, Frenzy, and attacks from Heavy Weapons.

One of the reasons attacks from Heavy Weapons are such a good choice is because they stagger the boss a lot and break his poise faster, allowing you to get a critical hit. Defeating the boss will reward you with his entire armor set and staff.

Strategies

There are two main strategies for this boss fight:

Melee Strategy

The player attacking the boss with melee weapon.

The melee strategy is relatively straightforward as the boss takes a lot of damage from physical attacks. You can use dual bleed weapons to make the boss bleed in a small amount of time. Heavy Weapons are pretty helpful in this fight, as each attack from a Heavy Greatsword or Colossal weapon will stagger the boss. Jumping heavy attacks will also break his poise quickly, allowing you to critical attack him for a large chunk of his health. Almost all of his casts can be interrupted with a heavy attack; meanwhile, a normal attack from a sword might take you two to three attacks.

The closer you stay to the boss, the more advantageous it is for you as you can get the damage in.

Ranged Strategy

The player casting Rock Sling on the boss.

The boss is somewhat strong against Magic. However, that does not mean a good spell will not melt him. Keeping distance from the boss and using Sorceries like Rock Sling is a good strategy for this fight. You can also avoid many attacks that the boss only does while being at close range, like the Black Flame Ritual, Carian Phalanx, and more.

You can also use Eternal Darkness (Sorcery) if you have it. The Sorcery travels in a straight line from where it is cast and draws in all spells in its path.

This is quite a helpful Sorcery to have as the boss uses only Spells and Incantations. As a Spellcaster, you can focus on bringing more Cerulean Tasks as the boss will not damage you much. For the Wondrous Flask, you bring the Hidden Cerulean Tear that allows you cast spells free of cost for the next ten seconds. Combining this with consecutive Rock Sling throws can be a deadly combo that you can make good use of.

The boss is quite weak to Frenzy spells as well, so if you are a Faith build user, then you bring multiple frenzy spell to deal severe damage to the boss and make the boss regret facing you.

  • Summon Banished Knight Oleg or Black Knife Tiche (Spirit Ashes) to help you in the fight. One of them can stagger the boss, and the other can close the gap between the boss quickly.
