Bosses turning into NPCs and allowing you to change your stats as long as you give them a microscopic fetus? It's more likely than you think.

One of these summons, known as Spirit Ashes, comes in the form of a Mimic Tear, a monster that can support you in battle by taking the same form as your character. This doppelganger will replicate your moves and equipment, and with it, your chances of survival in almost any fight regardless of its difficulty.

Updated February 13th, 2024, by Andrew Scariati: Finding the Mimic Tear Ashes can completely change the way you approach the boss fights in Elden Ring. If you've ever wished for some help from a character as well-equipped as your own, then the Mimic Tear Ashes will provide you with the best partner possible: a copy of yourself.

What Are The Mimic Tear Ashes?

ER_Mimic_Ashes_002-1

The Mimic Tear Ashes is an item that, once you have obtained it, allows you to summon a Mimic Tear in battle. This creature will shapeshift to become an exact copy of your character, which means that it'll have access to every single resource in your arsenal.

The Mimic Tear Ashes will prove very useful in almost any situation, regardless of its difficulty, making it perhaps the best Spirit Ash summon in the game.

Using the Mimic Tear Ashes will consume HP, but not FP, and it will make use of the following parts of your equipment:

  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Talismans
  • Spells/Incantations
  • Arrows/Bolts
  • Consumables

The Mimic Tear does not receive the stat boosts you do from Great Runes, gear, or any other item that helps increase your attributes.

The Mimic Tear won't be able to use the spells or weapon skills if it doesn't meet the required attributes.

Also, the Mimic Tear will prioritize the weapon in its right hand during combat.

Given the restrictions on how the Mimic Tear will act, you can use this knowledge to your advantage:

  1. If you want your Mimic Tear to provide ranged support, unequip your weapons and leave only your most powerful incantations equipped before you use your Mimic Tear Ashes.
    • Alternatively, you can also equip a throwable item only – the Mimic will continue to use this item as its sole form of attack.
  2. Equip weapons that have fast attack animations, as the Mimic Tear will sometimes struggle with timing its swings.
  3. Use buffing incantations that have an area-of-effect (AoE) before you dive into battle with your Mimic, as these buffs will also apply to them.

Where To Get The Mimic Tear Ashes

ER_Mimic_Ashes_003

The Mimic Tear Ashes can be found in Nokron, Eternal City, in a chest behind an imp statue in the Night's Sacred Ground zone. To access this place, you must first defeat the Mimic Tear boss and keep going until finding a room guarded by an imp statue.

To properly enter the room with the chest you need two Stonesword Keys that help you to open that zone. Once you're done with it, you'll have this powerful summon available for use, but first, let's talk a bit about the boss fight.

Mimic Tear Boss Fight

As stated before, the Mimic Tear can shapeshift into an exact copy of your character, using every aspect of your equipment as its own.

This is also true when you have to face him as an enemy, and you need to be very careful when choosing your equipment and distributing your stats, as the more powerful you are, the more difficult it'll be to beat the Mimic Tear boss fight.

It will have access to all your moves and equipped weapons, so be careful and patient, and try to beat it as fast as possible, so you don't give it too many chances of turning your arsenal and resources against you.

To 'cheese' the fight, and make it a little easier, you can unequip your gear before triggering the fight.

Then, once it's fully formed and the battle starts, simply reequip your gear. You'll have to be quick to pull this off, however.

All in all, the Mimic Tear boss fight is a great test of your build, as you'll be able to see what it's like in action from an external point of view.

Maybe cheesing this one isn't recommended if you want to improve your one versus one skills.
