Leveling up is an essential part of Elden Ring, and deciding where to put your Runes can be a daunting task for many. Nothing is worse than finding a new, cool weapon only to learn that you cannot wield it properly. Fortunately, in Elden Ring, you can reallocate your stat points and completely respec your character easily and relatively early on.

Like the system present in FromSoftware's previous Action-RPG, Dark Souls 3, you will need a specific item before reallocating your stats. Performing the task also requires you to speak with a particular NPC found in the world. Unlike Dark Souls 3, however, respeccing your character is much more accessible and readily available to the player.

Overview

The Raya Lucaria Academy Legacy Dungeon in Elden Ring

Before you can respec your Character in Elden Ring, you must first reach and complete the Raya Lucaria Academy Legacy Dungeon located deep in the harsh swamps found just past the Stormveil Castle. After defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, and the dungeon's final boss, the ability to reallocate your stats becomes available to you.

Additionally, respeccing your character costs one Larval Tear, a Key Item found throughout the Lands Between. You can reallocate your stats as much as you like, just as long as you have a Larval Tear on hand. Though there are more than ten already found thus far, and likely many more to be discovered, so you shouldn't have to worry about finding - or using - them.

How To Respec Your Character

After defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, you will receive the Great Rune of the Unborn, allowing you to speak with Rennala at the Raya Lucaria Grand Library to "Rebirth" and reset your stats. Doing so requires you to use a Larval Tear, which can be found across all the Lands Between. Additionally, you will also have the option to change your character's appearance here, which acts the same as the Mirror found in the Roundtable Hold.

Speaking with Rennala does not use a Larval Tear, meaning you can pop into the respec sheet and mess around with the numbers without fully committing to reallocating your stats. However, once you hit confirm, all bets are off, and it will use a Larval Tear and change your stats. The respec sheet will also default to your Starting Class's original stats and show you where you had previously leveled everything. While you can choose to go above or below where you once were, you cannot go below your class's base stats. Meaning if your Starting Class has 14 Arcane, it cannot go any lower than that (i.e., you cannot lower it to gain additional Attribute Points).
