Elden Ring is here, and while it’s not quite the best game of all time, it’s still very good. And befitting a game that’s both very good and hotly anticipated, it’s setting a few records on Steam.

As noted by Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, Elden Ring peaked at 764,835 concurrent players on Steam overnight, which is the seventh-highest concurrent user count for a single game on the platform. Although Elden Ring didn’t quite do enough to unseat Lost Ark in terms of blockbuster Steam releases, Elden Ring easily crushed FromSoftware’s two previous best releases on Steam. Dark Souls 3 peaked at 130,000 concurrent players, while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice peaked at roughly 125,000 players.

Also, we should note that these are just the Steam player numbers and don’t include the millions of folks who are playing the game on Xbox and PlayStation.

Things are even better for Elden Ring over on Twitch. According to TwitchTracker, Elden Ring peaked at 910,000 concurrent viewers, again defeating Sekiro (280,000) and Dark Souls 3 (276,000) handily. Elden Ring now sits at number 16 on Twitch’s all-time records for peak concurrent viewers.

As of the time of this writing, there are 674,000 viewers on Twitch, which indicates that several hundred thousand viewers stopped watching to just go play the game themselves when it launched in their region.

Although Elden Ring is great, it's far from perfect on PC. Steam users are noting dropped frames and stuttering in the open-world areas as the main technical issues facing Elden Ring, which has led to a "mixed" review score on Steam. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware acknowledge Elden Ring's poor PC performance in a blog post that promised swift action for several issues affecting PC. Performance improvements will be an ongoing matter and Bandai Namco recommended users upgrade their drivers to ensure peak performance.
