Elden Ring's beloved Pot Friends aren't all as friendly as they may seem.
Besides Solaire of Astora, it's not often that FromSoftware games have a mascot behind them. Yet, that's been exactly the case with Elden Ring and the Pot Friends. These sentient pots have been paraded around alongside the game at events like The Game Awards, and have generally been assumed to be the Tarnished's best friend.
That isn't the case for all of them, however. As reported by IGN, the Pot Friends aren't quite as simplistic as you might have first thought, and a few of them could even be considered enemies. Let's start off with the good news - some Pot Boys are friendly. Alexander, the big pot that was seen at The Game Awards and that can be found stuck in the ground in-game, is a friend to the player and will even point you towards an important location.
That's where the good news ends, unfortunately. Elden Ring's dungeons reportedly feature pots both big and small that will attack the player on sight. These pots are known officially as Living Jars and the player's only options upon seeing them is either to run away or smash them to pieces. Take a guess what most are going to be doing.
IGN reports that these large pots aren't just disappointingly unfriendly, but that the large ones can actually be quite dangerous and tough to defeat. In a game as purposefully lonely as Elden Ring, it probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise to see seemingly friendly enemies attack the player and keep them from trusting too much, but considering the press hype and love for Alexander, it's a bit surprising to see enemy variants.
FromSoft fans probably aren't all that surprised to hear this, as even Solaire of Astora can turn violent depending on the player's actions. With this shocking turn of events, we'll probably hold off on hoping for a Pot Friend amiibo anytime soon. At least we'll always have Alexander.
