A new Elden Ring story trailer has just dropped at The Game Awards, and in typical FromSoftware fashion, it raises more questions than it answers. The story was written by Game of Thrones author Geroge R. R. Martin, so it should be less cryptic than Dark Souls at least.

A narrator reveals that the Elden Ring was broken, but nobody knows who did it, or why. A war ensues between the demigods that ravages the land and its inhabitants. A vast army lays siege on the city at the base of the huge tree of light seen in the early trailers and the beta.

The trailer culminates in a fight between The Blade of Miquella, Malenia The Severed and a hulking warrior, The Conquerer of Stars, General Radhan, who wields two giant swords. The monstrosity cleaves the arm off of Malenia as she charges towards them, but it barely breaks here stride. We then see her tarnished go super Saiyan level nine as she gets stabbed while pouncing on the giant.

The two warriors fight on a field of fallen soldiers and protruding weapons, showing the war has truly decimated the mythical place. Her hair glows and blooms into a large flower shape - this looks to be the power the Elden Ring can bestow upon those who possess its numerous shards.

Elden Ring looks to have taken a lot of inspiration from previous FromSoftware game and game of the year 2018 winner, Sekiro. The traversal is much more fluid than typical Soulsborne games. The devs also seem to have taken a leaf out of Dragon's Dogma's book for Elden Ring's magic system, which looks like it integrates weapons and spells beautifully.

According to TheGamer's lead features editor, Jade King, Elden Ring has also taken a lot of positive influences from Breath of the WIld, but its world lacks much more than combat. Hopefully, the game lives up to its hype. It just won most anticipated game of the year for the second year in a row, its fans really deserve a win.
