Caria Manor includes a number of key items and some very important NPCs.

One of these new weapons has quickly become a fan favourite due to its unique design and extremely powerful weapon art. This blade is named the Sword of Night and Flame, and can be found relatively early in your journey across the Lands Between.

Updated November 29, 2023, by Sean Murray: Elden Ring's Sword of Night and Flame is still a powerful weapon, so Tarnished would be well-served by this guide to its location. That's why we've refreshed it with improved formatting and more links to other helpful Elden Ring topics.

Where To Find The Sword of Night and Flame

Caria Manor location in Elden Ring

The Sword of Night and Flame can be found in the northwestern corner of the Liurnia of the Lakes region. It's the area of the map most players gain access to after defeating Godrick the Grafted, the game’s second main boss.

Among the many things to do in the Liurnia of the Lakes is a legacy dungeon, the Caria Manor. It's a mid-game area with some dangerous enemies to take on. To find the Caria Manor, you'll want to stick to the left-hand cliff in Liurnia of the Lakes, moving northward until you reach the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Here you'll find a giant blacksmith named Iji, who'll fill you in on some lore that led to the Manor's downfall before warning against entering.

At the manor’s entrance, you'll find a Site of Grace. Make sure to rest, as this will be your first respawn point should you become overwhelmed by enemies. Upon entering the courtyard, you'll find dozens of rather terrifying, spider-like hand enemies, some big, some small.

You can choose to fight these enemies off, but be careful of their grab attacks if you do.

When you get to the fountain, turn left and carry on following this path until you come to a doorway lit by blue light. Travel up the stairs, and you'll find yourself in a chapel with a Site of Grace.

From here, head along the stone walkway, being careful of the ghostly knights that appear both in front of and behind you. Turn left at the first tower, then turn right at the next. Soon, you'll come across an exposed section of the walkway on your left, with the roof of a building visible.

Jump down onto this roof and then down onto the next. This rooftop has a square hole with a ladder leading down. Head down the ladder into the dimly lit room to find a chest. Inside will be the Sword of Night and Flame.

After finding the sword, you can loop back around and carry on exploring the manor. Make sure you do, as completing this area allows you to begin a questline for Ranni the Witch. For tips, check out our guide on how to complete Ranni the Witch's questline.

Using The Sword Of Night And Flame

Elden Ring - player character attacking an enemy while both are on horseback

The Sword of Night and Flame requires 12 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 24 Intelligence, and 24 Faith. It has weapon scaling of D in both Intelligence and Faith; the weapon will become stronger with the more points you put into each stat.

The Sword of Night and Flame is unique in that it features two weapon arts. The first a powerful beam of glintstone magic, the second a devastating swirl of fire. Each of these abilities is extremely potent, and with the blade’s impressive scaling, the Sword of Night and Flame quickly becomes one of Elden Ring’s most powerful weapons.

To upgrade this weapon you'll need Somber Smithing Stones, the rarer version of the game’s upgrading material. You can purchase Somber Smithing Stones 1-4 from Iji, the giant you met on the road to Caria Manor, for a combined cost of 15,000 Runes.
