Some companies have a bad habit of announcing a game years ahead of its intended release. We recently saw how this could have disastrous consequences with the release of Cyberpunk 2077. It is not always the developer's fault, however. Take Bethesda, for example.
Fans were so adamant about a new Elder Scrolls, the company almost had no choice but to reveal they were working on the project and give us a small trailer. The initial tease was in 2018 and we have received almost new information on the project since then. Because of this silence, fans are currently relating to any of the ten memes below.
10 Honestly, It'll Probably Still Take A While
Before we start seeing news on the sixth numbered entry in the storied Elder Scrolls franchise, Bethesda will first release Starfield. The upcoming science fiction RPG still feels like a ways off, too. Waiting on a planet where time progresses differently will help, but you'll still have to be patient. However much time is needed to make a great game is however long we will wait.
9 Are You Happy!?
This is basically how fans felt about Bethesda at E3 2018 when the game was officially announced. Even then it was already seven years since Skyrim, so players were anxiously awaiting information on a followup. Fans were super excited at the reveal, but they did not realize that it would be years before any new information came to light. Bethesda has more recently done deep dives on games just several months before release, so this means we probably have several more years of silence before hearing anything.
8 Why Not Play And Wait?
While plenty of people like both, a solid portion of Elder Scrolls fans have no interest in the post-apocalyptic wastelands of the Fallout franchise. Still, you could spend your time both waiting and playing a similar open-world RPG.
If Fallout is not your flavor, why not spend some time playing The Witcher games or Kingdom Come: Deliverance? Open-world RPGs are more plentiful than ever, so there is no shortage of exciting worlds to explore.
7 Arena 6
While we appreciate the comedic value of this meme, is a game in the style of Elder Scrolls: Arena really what people would want? We could understand a Daggerfall 5, but Arena is extremely rough around the edges and misses a few key things signature to the Elder Scrolls franchise. Still, it is always good to remember where franchises come from, if only to appreciate how much they have evolved through the iterations.
6 Even The NPCs Know It Will Be A While
You would think if anyone knew the next Elder Scrolls game's release date, it would be a Skyrim NPC. Alas, even they have no clue as to when we can expect the hotly anticipated title. They do know that it will not be anytime soon. Fortunately, there is plenty to do and see in Skyrim until the day comes. Even once you have exhausted all the content Bethesda has made, the community is constantly putting out new mods.
5 Even The Skeleton Will Wither Away
This is how we will all look eventually when we are waiting for something. As fans of games and other media, it is almost a little sad to think there will be a day when we don't get to experience the anticipated game or movie for which we have waited so long. Just remember, there are plenty of other awesome things to experience while waiting for Elder Scrolls 6. Play some video games or watch some upcoming movies. There is nothing wrong with being excited for something, but never let that take enjoyment away from the now.

You think waiting for a new Elder Scrolls game is tough? Try being the person waiting for a sequel to Chess. Unfortunately, it does not look like any sequel these days would likely catch on.
To be fair, Chess received numerous changes and variations throughout its more than thousand year history to make it the game it is today. However, patches and expansions are never as good as a full on sequel.
3 A Sony Fan's Lament
Bethesda games generally have trouble on consoles, but they tend to suffer particularly bad on Sony platforms. Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas ran notoriously poor on the PS3. The good news is fans likely will not have to worry about this when Elder Scrolls 6 comes out. The bad news is this is because the upcoming title perhaps will not come out on the PS5. Microsoft recently purchased Bethesda, meaning Elder Scrolls 6, along with future Fallout games, might only come out on PC and Xbox.
2 If Only Waiting Were That Easy
If you had the choice to skip over life and immediately wake up on the day when Elder Scrolls 6 comes out, would you do it? There are other things to do in life other than wait for the game, for sure, but is any of it as important as finally playing the sixth title in this storied franchise? We wonder if Elder Scrolls NPCs have the luxury of waiting like this for whatever book or spectacle they want to see.
1 Keep Waiting
While the world is always changing, somethings stay the same. In the future people will still wage wars, the planet will keep turning, and fans will still be waiting for Elder Scrolls 6. If a time traveller came from the future and the above exchange happened, your world would probably break. Hopefully the time machine they used to go to our time can take you to the distant future. The only way this plan could backfire is learning the game was actually cancelled in the future.
