With over 40 regions in Elder Scrolls Online, it can be almost impossible to choose what one to either start with or explore next. Nevertheless, it's important you know what you're getting yourself into when choosing a region, after all, everyone is looking for a different aspect of the game to enjoy.

So whether you're looking for a dungeon, an armor set, some incredible questlines, or just aesthetics that will leave you staring at your screen for hours, Elder Scrolls Online has it all. Here are the regions that are perfect for whatever your MMO heart may desire.

10 Stonefalls

ESO Stonefalls Region

Located in Morrowind, Stonefalls is a beautiful location that is filled with fun and interesting quests, as well as a landscape that will grant you whatever you're looking for. Ultimately, Stonefalls is an often forgotten about region that is undoubtedly stunning to play in, containing everything from mesmerizing fungal forests to awesome but dangerous volcanic lava flows.

As for quests, there are around 20 main story quests, each in different areas, allowing you to see the wonderful location in its entirety. While there aren't too many memorable quest lines in Stonefalls, you'll definitely still be entertained if questing is the way you want to play. There are also six dungeons/delves available.

9 Vvardenfell

ESO Vvardenfel Region

If Delves are your favorite thing about Elder Scrolls Online, then look no further than Vvardenfell. It has six unique delves for you to explore and also has a wonderful main city that, although opinion-based, is particularly well laid out. It's also another one of those regions with a variety of locations and designs, all in one place. Vvardenfell has some beautiful mushroom jungles, intense woodlands, and even a variety of lava-filled rock, ready to burn you when you're not looking.

The only issue is the lack of Dark Anchors. Many players have grown to love these world events and the lack of one really leaves a hole in this region. It may have some interesting questlines and some stunning aesthetics, but for many, the lack of Dark Anchors is unforgettable.

8 Reaper's March

ESO Reaper's March Region

As soon as you enter Reaper's March you'll love it. Despite the rather sinister name, Reaper's March is a gorgeous region to walk through, although it does have a few more eerie locations if that's what you're looking for. In a way, that's what this region is made for, it's got something for everyone, and therefore everyone is able to appreciate its beauty and its usefulness. No matter what you're looking for, Reaper's March has it.

You can find five delves, which is less than average, but you can also take part in two group dungeons, which, for some, makes up for it and more. Or if you'd prefer to learn about the lore of this beautiful place, there are 12 main quests and around 40 side quests to complete. Overall, there are a huge variety of elements to explore in Reaper's March. It's definitely one of the more aesthetically pleasing sites on ESO.

7 Western Skyrim

ESO Western Skyrim Region

It's pretty clear that Skyrim would be a hit when it was introduced into ESO in 2020, and when it looks like it does, that isn't much of an argument. It has all the trimmings of the beloved Skyrim as well as bringing its own online spin.

While it may not be what all fans expected, the region is still incredibly fun to play and has little easter eggs dotted around for die-hard fans to find.

6 Northern Elsweyr

ESO Northern Elsweyr Region

Dark Anchors may be enjoyable, but nothing beats fighting Dragons. Northern Elsweyr has a lot of particularly enjoyable aspects, but those world events are just second to none, especially when you compare them to any other world events available in ESO. Again, while it may be an entirely personal opinion, the Dragons seem to be tougher and just manage to pull you straight back into Skyrim.

If longer story quests are your preference then maybe this region isn't ideal for you, since there are only really eight main quests to complete. They are, however, incredibly interesting and often entertaining, but nothing compares to those dragons.

5 Cyrodiil

ESO Cyrodiil Region

Ultimately, having a favorite region is an entirely personal opinion, but an even more divisive idea is that of PVP and PVE preferences. Luckily, this is where ESO has got it right, if you want to fight other players then head into Cyrodiil and do your worst. If not, stay away, and you'll be fine.

So if PVP is what you're looking for, then Cyrodiil will be the region you spend most of your time in. That's by no means a bad thing, however, Cyrodiil is an incredibly fun and challenging region that you'll never forget.

4 Coldharbour

ESO Molag Bal statue in Coldharbour, a blue cavernous region with dead trees and a pale sky

While a fair few of Elder Scrolls Online's regions may pride themselves on their beauty, Coldharbour is the complete opposite. It's cold, dark, and just looks evil, which is probably why so many players love exploring it. Or, it could be the wonderful lore behind it, being Molag Bal's Oblivion domain after all.

Nevertheless, this region is perfect for anyone who loves the more evil side of Elder Scrolls and loves seeing the destruction Molag Bal can bring on such a helpless landscape. The many quests often reflect such an impact, as well as the awesome world events placed around this relatively sizable region. It's a wonderful region that's well worth checking out.

3 Deshaan

ESO Deshaan Region

While the aesthetics of Deshaan are certainly pretty, with the lush forests and sometimes dangerous Kwarma mines, it's what you can get out of this region that really brings players into it. Depending on how you want to play the game you can get hold of the Mothers Sorrow armor set, one of the most overpowered sets in the game for a Magicka DPS build.

To get hold of this set all you need to do is complete quests and enjoy the region for all it has to offer. A worthy exploration for a Magicka DPS character.

2 Gold Coast

ESO Gold Coast Region

What Gold Coast lacks in delves (of which it only has two) it certainly makes up for in pure beauty and wonderful DLC questlines. If the Dark Brotherhood is something you wish to pursue, then you'll likely be spending most of your time on the Gold Coast.

As it has been for many players, spending so much time in this beautiful landscape is an absolute treat and one many remember fondly. Even if you'll get a sizeable bounty on your head a few times.

1 Blackwood

ESO Blackwood Region

As one of the more recent additions to Elder Scrolls Online, Blackwood is quickly becoming a fan favorite, particularly by the introduction of companions. They bring a new twist to the game and allow you to explore this awesome region with someone to fight by your side.

There are seven main quests to explore and six interesting Delves if that's what you prefer to do when exploring a region. Nevertheless, it's the companions that really make this location fun.
