If you’ve been buying battle passes and V-Bucks on your account then you should want it locked down in case of an emergency. That’s right, you may be able to shoot down foes in Fortnite and defend your base in Save The World, but that’s nothing compared to defending yourself against hackers who are interested in taking your account, progress, and expensive skins for themselves.

Protecting against hackers and malicious attempts on your account is far more important than protecting against zombies and stream snipers, and that’s why you should use two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Fortnite account. If you want to ensure that you’re going to be safe in the battles ahead, this is the way to do it.

In this guide we’ll run you through how you can activate 2FA on your Epic Games and Fortnite account to ensure you’ll be safe from hacking attempts in the future. You’ll also get a Boogiedown emote, in addition to some loot for Save The World, so there’s no reason not to.

Which 2FA Method To Use

Before you get started setting up a 2FA method on your Fortnite account you can take some time to think about which 2FA method you wish to use. If your preference is to use an app - which is my preference most of the time, honestly.

If you choose to use an app for your 2FA, then you’ll have a selection of many, with the Epic Games site suggesting these four:

  • Google Authenticator
  • LastPass Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Authy

If you don’t wish to use any of those, you can simply default to an email authenticator.

How To Set Up 2FA For Fortnite And Epic Games

Just follow our instructions below to complete 2FA set up on your Fortnite or Epic Games account.

  • First, visit this site and log in with your Epic Games account.
  • Go to your Account Settings.
  • Go to the Password & Security tab.
  • Navigate to Two-Factor Authentication.
  • Depending on whether to use an app or your email, selection Enable Authenticator App or Enable Email Authentication. You should ensure to have the app download in advance of this.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know, Epic Games may ask you to confirm via email and enter your password, but once you’re done your account will be safer than ever.
