It would appear that Fortnite's Wailing Woods is not long for this world as players have noticed smoke and ash rising up from underneath it.
The end of yet another season of Fortnite is officially upon us and this one is shaping up to be a doozy. Today (February 27, 2019) is the final day of season seven. In the build-up to today, and season eight's arrival tomorrow, Epic has been releasing cryptic clues via Fortnite's Twitter account. Clues that have had all of us wildly speculating about what exactly we can expect to see today, tomorrow, and over the course of the weekend.
At the time of typing this, the fourth and final teaser image was dropped on Twitter just 20 minutes ago. As hoped, or perhaps feared, when all four images are put together, it forms what appears to be a volcano. This all goes hand in hand with the earthquakes that have been taking place around Fortnite Island, and the belief that a volcano is about to rise up out of the map.
If you are not already convinced of that inevitability (and honestly how could you not be?) here's the kicker. Players have noticed that smoke and ash has started to rise out of the ground at Wailing Woods. Don't believe us? Take a look for yourselves in the video below courtesy of Redditor erlendgamer37.
But wait, there's more. Another Redditor has discovered a bug that shows all of the many trees that call Wailing Woods home as being dead. In fact, by the time you read this, that might well no longer be a bug and simply be what that part of the map now looks like. Things are happening down on Fortnite Island and they are happening fast.
So season eight of Fortnite is almost definitely bringing a volcano along with it. Sadly for fans of Wailing Woods, it seems as if that area of the map is the part that is going to have to make way for the inevitability of change. Make the most of that scenic part of Fortnite Island folks, and try to make sure you're not slap bang in the middle of it when that volcano erupts up through the floor. Or you know, definitely try to be in the middle of it because that would be insanely cool.
