Epic Games will be awarding certain Fortnite players an Equalizer Glider following a mix up with the end date of the 14 Days Of Fortnite challenge.
In the build to the festive season, a massive snowstorm hit Fortnite Island. Players could see it coming from the starter island where you gather while waiting to be picked up by the battle bus. When it did hit, a massive part of the map was subsequently covered in snow giving the whole game a real Christmassy feel. We imagine that was the intention.
Fortnite was not only hit with snow but also some holiday-themed challenges. They were dubbed the 14 Days Of Fortnite and it was exactly what it sounds like. A new challenge each day with rewards waiting for those who could complete them. The challenges included finding giant candy canes on the island and also rifling through some waterside goose nests.
Many players were led to believe that they had until January 3 or 4 to complete all 14 of the challenges. However, those who did think that were met with a nasty surprise this week. Turns out the final day to complete the challenges was January 2. Particularly annoying for those who didn't get around to finishing off the final challenge as the prize for doing so was a rare Equalizer Glider.
We apologize for communicating the wrong end date for 14 Days of Fortnite on social channels.— Fortnite (@FortniteGame) January 2, 2019
To make up for this, players that completed at least one 14 Days Event Challenge will be granted the Equalizer Glider. Eligible players will begin receiving theirs in the near future.
According to GQ, the misunderstanding started with an Epic employee saying on Reddit that the time limit to complete the challenges would, in fact, end on the 3rd or 4th of January. Epic Games has been quick to respond to anger from players, revealing on Fortnite's Twitter account that it will be awarding the glider to anyone who completed at least one of the 14 challenges.
When exactly players will get the glider has not been revealed. The announcement may also annoy players who put the extra work in to attain the Equalizer Glider. Since pretty much anyone who has played Fortnite over the holidays will have completed at least one of the 14 challenges, that means almost every player will get the glider. In turn, that means the item won't exactly be that rare anymore.
