Epic Considering Apex Legends-Style Respawn System In Fortnite

Epic Games has admitted that it is considering the introduction of a respawn system in Fortnite and that we might know more as soon as season eight.

Battle Royale style games are well and truly the biggest thing in gaming right now. Despite a litany of other competitors, no matter how much you might not want to admit it, Fortnite is still the industry leader. Other developers and titles have arrived on the scene, but Epic continues to tweak and change Fortnite in order to keep it fresh and relevant.

However, Fortnite looks to be facing biggest Battle Royale competitor yet: Apex Legends. Respawn's contribution to the Battle Royale arena has been an unmitigated hit. In order to set yourself apart from Fortnite and other Battle Royale games, you need to include innovative ideas that other developers haven't thought of, or at least tweak them to make those ideas unique.

Apex Legends has done that via its respawn system. For those who haven't played the game thus far, if one of your teammates is downed, you can grab their tag and take it to a respawn point. If you manage to do that, hey presto, your teammate returns. It would seem that the respawn concept has been such a hit that Epic is considering introducing something similar to Fortnite Island.

During a recent AMA on Reddit, Epic was asked whether Fortnite fans can expect to see some sort of respawn method added to the game any time soon. Epic answered that it has been "considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it." It also added that we might not have long to wait to see what they mean by that, hinting that we should "look for further updates during Season 8."

This week will be a big one for Fortnite. Season 7 will soon come to an end and on Thursday, season 8 will begin. Right now, all we can do is speculate when it comes to knowing what the new season will bring. Epic never fails to disappoint and with the continued success of Apex Legends, Fortnite is under more pressure to deliver now than it has ever been.
