The latest limited time mode on Fortnite has been revealed, Solo Showdown, and Epic has labeled it “the ultimate test of survival”.

Fortnite is the hottest thing in the video game world right now. The online multiplayer game is free to download and is currently available on almost every platform imaginable. That's why it's so hard to avoid, whether you play it or not. If you do have the hardware at your disposal to play Fortnite but you don't already, well we'd highly recommend that you hop on the bandwagon.

The concept for Fortnite's Battle Royale mode is pretty basic. 100 players parachute into the map, all starting off equal with nothing but an axe and having to frantically find something more powerful once they hit the floor. As entertaining as that sounds, and is, it can naturally get a little boring after a while. That's why Epic keeps us interested via constantly changing limited time modes.

The latest of those limited time modes was perhaps the most popular of all. It featured the Infinity Gauntlet from Avengers: Infinity War, and whichever lucky player got their hands on it first became the all-powerful supervillain, Thanos. Sadly, that mode came to an end earlier this week; however, today Epic announced a new mode that will have already begun by the time you read this.

The new mode has been dubbed "Solo Showdown". Unlike other limited time modes that have come before it, Solo Showdown will not change the core gameplay of the regular solo mode in any way. "Instead, you will be placed against other self-selected competitors making this the ultimate test of survival", Epic revealed on their site. The most exciting part of the new mode is the quest to get yourself into the standings. You have to be one of the top 50 players to do so, and if you finish first you'll win yourself 50,000 V-Bucks.

It's not a winner takes all scenario though. All players that manage to finish among the top 50 players by the time Solo Showdown ends, on May 21, 2018 at 10:oo am EST, will win a prize. Plus, anyone who manages to compete in 50 Solo Showdowns by that point will have earned themselves a unique spray. So what are you waiting for? Get to playing!
