Arguably Fortnite's most divisive weapon, the guided missile launcher, is being removed from the game for the time being.

It's only been live for a few weeks - since March 29th - but Fortnite's guided missile has taken the game's community by storm. Some - maybe even most - love it, or at least love the possibilities it creates. Others dislike the fact that the tricks enabled by the weapon create an even bigger gulf between the skilled users and the average Joes and Janes out there. Still others say a weapon that can blow someone up, from a distance, around walls and over barriers, might need a bit of a nerf.

The most visible aspect of the guided missile has been the 'rocket rides,' wherein a player will fire the missile, turn it back on themselves, and jump at a critical moment in order to land on the active missile and go for a bit of a ride. Two players working together can make this work even better, so long as the rider jumps at just the right time. You don't want to go blowing up a teammate.

Now, unfortunately, Epic is removing the guided missile from the game - at least for now. It was first disabled on April 11th after a bug introduced in patch v3.5 created an animation issue for it. That patch was actually meant to nerf the missile and, well, it appears that they succeeded a little bit too well.

Now, though, Epic Games has announced it is taking another drastic step. In a Reddit post, EpicEricSW said "We’ve gotten a lot of feedback around the Guided Missile, in particular concerns over fairness and strength of the weapon. We share your concerns, so we’ve put the Guided Missile into the vault while we figure out the next steps for its future."

Who knows if they intend to ever bring the guided missile back. It would make for a pretty fun event weapon, but for now it is just too flexible - anything that can kill someone behind cover and be a reasonably fast mode of transportation needs to be given a lot of consideration.

What do you think? Is the guided missile bad for the game, even if it's pretty darn fun? If Epic ever brings it back, what should they change about it?
