Eternals' review score on Rotten Tomatoes has now dropped so low that it's the only movie in the MCU that has failed to achieve a fresh rating.

The MCU continues later this week when Eternals finally arrives exclusively in theaters. The third movie in the franchise since the world started to open back up again. With No Way Home still to come before the end of 2021, it already feels as if the MCU was never on hiatus at all.

Marvel fans might well be reminded that not every superhero movie is a home run when they see Eternals, though. That's what the almost 150 critic reviews written so far would suggest anyway. The movie's score currently sits at 57% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's not great for any blockbuster, but even worse for a movie in the MCU.

In fact, it's the worst rating for an MCU movie ever, and the first to not receive a fresh rating. Eternals' score has been fluctuating as more critic reviews pour in for the movie. It was as high as 72% as recently as a week ago, but has dropped off significantly since. At that point, Eternals had a higher rating than Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk, and was level with Iron Man 2.

It has since dropped below all of those titles which doesn't bode well for its official release this Friday. Then again, critic reviews and fan reviews often differ quite a bit on Rotten Tomatoes. The Dark World, for example, has a 75% rating when you consider fans alone. There's every chance the masses will think more of Eternals than the critics have done so far. Marvel and Disney will be hoping so anyway.

Even though most people haven't seen Eternals yet, it's no secret that the movie is going to be quite a bit different from almost everything the MCU has offered up so far. That it likely doesn't fit the formula could be one reason why it is reviewing so poorly. It has also come less than two months after Shang-Chi which was critically acclaimed and loved by fans. Shang-Chi has a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the seventh highest-rated movie in the MCU.
