Everyone wants a slice of the battle royale pie, as even Forza Horizon 4 has created a mode that allows it to get in on the fun.

When people look back on this era in gaming history, chances are one of the main things it will be remembered for is the popularity of the battle royale genre. When a gamer hears the phrase, a number of titles will immediately spring to mind — Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends.

However, the free-to-play titles focused around battle royale aren't the only games making the most of the fad. Since all of the above have been enjoying so much battle royale success, other established titles have been adding battle royale modes to their games. Call of Duty is just one example that simply couldn't resist.

Forza Horizon 4 is another that can now be added to the list, reports Destructoid. That's right, a racing game. So how on Earth does that work we hear you ask? Let us explain. The new mode is called Eliminator. It will drop in the form of a free update to anyone who already owns Forza Horizon 4 on December 12, 2019. Each round will start with 72 players on an open map, all with a red Mini Cooper.

Akin to Fortnite, that means all players start on a level playing field and are tasked with finding upgrades to improve their vehicles. When close to a rival player, you can challenge them to a race. A random waypoint will appear and the last one there is eliminated. Players don't have to issue challenges if they don't want to, but cannot refuse them when issued one. If someone finds and challenges you, then the race is on.

Beat a player and you can either steal their car or add their upgrades to your own. As all of this is going on, a border will be closing in. Find yourself outside of it and a timer will count down. When it reaches zero, you're out. When there are just ten players left, a final random waypoint will appear for all the remaining racers to drive towards. The first one there is the winner.
