Evil Dead: The Game is, as you'd expect, a game based on Evil Dead. Specifically, it takes characters from across the Evil Dead series and allows you to play as them, each with different roles. There are Leaders, Warriors, Hunters, and Support, and since Ash Williams (the central character of the series, played by Bruce Campbell) appears in the three movies and television show the game borrows from, that means there's four Ash Williams' too. Campbell voices each Ash (all characters are voiced by their actors, in fact), and had some impact on the game itself - most notably on his ass.
Campbell and (Evil Dead director and creator) Sam Raimi both gave feedback during the development of the game, Saber Interactive told TheGamer at a one on one hands-on preview. While the devs didn't detail too much of the specifics that may have been changed thanks to Campbell and Raimi's input, one thing which did stand out was Campbell's ass. Or rather, didn't stand out.
"Bruce told us 'that's not my ass!'", the devs told TheGamer. "I think he was kidding, but we gave it a bit more definition anyway." We reported no issues with Campbell's ass during our own preview, but you'll be able to judge for yourself on May 13 when the game launches. How accurate the butts of other characters are, TheGamer cannot say.
As noted in our preview, the game is fiercely loyal to the movies themselves, and chock full of references. One of the caves in the map is named after the real-life shooting location for the cave used in Army of Darkness, for example. Meanwhile, Shemp's Cola is used to give you extra ability points, a nod to the 'Fake Shemp' name many of the cast are credited under. This refers to the body double stand-ins who were needed when the shoot ran over its schedule, with the two most famous Shemps being Campbell himself and Raimi's brother Ted, who himself is set to star in horror game The Quarry later this year. With this level of love for Evil Dead itself, it's no wonder that Bruce Campbell's butt was held in such high regard.
