Dragon Ball Z is one of the world's most popular anime because of its surreal hyperspeed clashes and gripping story. The gross revenue of Dragon Ball Z's video games is estimated in the billions. Swiftly approaching is the long-anticipated release of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an action role-playing game with a big emphasis on role-playing. Collecting the Dragon Balls is still an integral part of the game series, but we don't know how it will tie into the game's role-playing. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is releasing January 6th, 2020. In the meantime, this is everything we know about Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

10 We Know Some Of The Game's Confirmed Characters

According to gamerant.com, "the confirmed characters are Goku, Piccolo, Gohan (Kid, Teen, Adult), Vegeta, Trunks, Vegito, and Gotenks." The number of characters confirmed comes as a surprise in comparison to what we saw in Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

There are 21 base characters in FighterZ with 3 unlockable and 8 DLC characters as well. Regardless, we'll be having a blast (no pun intended) with the available characters, even if they are limited at launch.

9 It Won't Release For Nintendo Switch At Launch

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot won't release for the Nintendo Switch at launch. The game will launch on platforms such as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. This could come as disappointing news for Nintendo fanboys who loved Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Be that as it may, Dragon Ball FighterZ did not launch on the Nintendo Switch. It released for the Nintendo Switch several months after launching for other platforms. In all likelihood, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will eventually release for the Nintendo Switch.

8 Meet Bonyu! New Characters That Weren't Present In The Anime

Designed by Akira Toriyama, Bonyu is the most recent character to join the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot roster. She's part of the Brench-seijin race, the same race as Ginyu member Jeice. Looking at her logo, it's clear that she is affiliated with the Ginyu Force. This is because she's a former member and part of Frieza's force.

The game will soon release, and we've only heard about one original character. This is likely not the last we've heard about new characters in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

7 CyberConnect2 Is Developing The Game

Finally, someone took a chance on CyberConnect 2, one of the hottest names in anime fighting games. They are well-known for their work on the Naruto franchise, creating hit games such as Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3.

They are also known for developing games such as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle and Asura's Wrath. As a company that is experienced with anime fighting games, they are the ideal choice to head Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. With that said, this is a bigger project than their previous games, and fans have the highest expectations.

6 It Contains An Open-World (Sort Of)

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has the traits of an open-world game, but it won't have a full-blown open-world. According to pcgamer.com, "It has open areas, but it's not one huge sandbox."

The game will contain linear progression with areas resembling an open-world. Of course, since interplanetary travel takes place in Dragon Ball Z, it would be quite tricky to make the game genuinely open-world...uhh open-universe. Regardless, players will find enjoyment in flying from location to destination in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

5 It Will Follow The Story Arc Of The Anime

For the most part, the story of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is going to be based on the anime. Of course, since so many fans out there love and adore the Dragon Ball Z anime, it's logical to include the highly acclaimed works.

Since we know that the developer CyberConnect2 has taken a creative license for side quests, it's confirmed that there will be some variation to the classic manga. The side quests might be something along the lines of the time-travel story in Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

4 The Combat Will Be 3D

2D fighting games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball Z Supersonic Warriors are exceptional games in their own right. 3D combat, however, has made impactful advancements in recent years. The way developers have revolutionized the 3D combat of Dragon Ball games is awe-inspiring.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will lead the charge in 3D combat with possibly the most sensational fights we've seen in a Dragon Ball game. If Kakarot improves on games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, it will surpass expectations.

3 You'll Improve Your Character By Using A Skill Tree

This leaked image of a skill tree tells us that there will be player customization in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Skills will enhance the game's gameplay as never before seen in a Dragon Ball game. The game will have passive and active skills.

The most exceptional role-playing games contain lots of player customization and a rich story. We already know the story will be phenomenal, and now, player customization is confirmed. Most likely, outfits and accessories will be customizable as well. Hopefully, the outfits give character bonuses are not purely for vanity.

2 It's An Action Role-Playing Game

The fact that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot isn't 100% a role-playing game isn't going to hurt the enjoyability of the game. Throughout the years, there have been outstanding action role-playing games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Mass Effect 2, and Dark Souls.

Action role-playing games are highly addictive, action-packed, and contain some of the best role-playing elements. Hopefully, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is more role-playing than action because the franchise is in dire need of a shakeup.

1 You'll Be Able To Fish!

This picture is not a joke. You'll be able to fish in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot using your tail. The act is an homage to an early episode of Dragon Ball, where young Goku decides to fish with his Saiyan tail. It looks weird, and we wish there were some way to explain this primitive Saiyan act.

Perhaps the game will give you the option to use a fishing rod as well. Either way, you'll be able to fish in Dragon Ball Z: Kakaraot.
