Koei Tecmo's recently released Fairy Tail is a JRPG developed by Gust Co. LTD, known for the Atelier Ryza series. Based on a Shonen Jump anime that features over 300 episodes, you'd think this would be an epic journey to end all epic journey. 900 hours of content that never ends and drones on and on and on and...

Surprisingly, that isn't the case here. While the developers had stated before release that the story would take around 30 hours to complete, they were likely talking about complete newbies to RPGs. If you're well versed in how turn-based combat works, you can complete the main nine episodes in 20 hours.

That's not to say there aren't ways to extend that time. When the credits roll on the main quest, an epilogue chapter unlocks that covers the entirety of the "Avatar" arc. That's an additional five hours or so of meaningful story, though in a truncated manner. This could be the 30 mark Gust was talking about, but the final boss feels fairly definitive. The epilogue covers material from the anime but doesn't truly feel like crucial content.

There's also the insane requests board that features 100+ side-quests. They are fairly monotonous and repetitive, but that will extend your playtime by 10-15 more hours if you're making liberal use of fast travel. Couple that with the character related quests (which unlocks higher ranks and better skills) and there's roughly another full game here once the story is done.

You could also look to the PS4 trophies for more tasks to complete. These are fairly easy, overall, but will require you find hidden candies and destroy certain objects in the environment. You'll also need to level up your characters to deal 1,000,000 damage in a single chain attack, which isn't really possible until you're around level 70.

All of this means you could be spending around 60-70 hours to 100% everything Fairy Tail has to offer. Many will probably tap out before that, but you can't knock Gust for not including a ton of bonus stuff to do. The story could have used more fleshing out, but at least fans will get their fix.
