It's time to talk about Devolver Digital's most successful game launch to date and the current addiction that is sweeping the world, Fall Guys. This adorable obstacle-based Battle Royale is the brainchild of U.K Dev Team Mediatonic and it had a much larger following upon its debut than anyone was expecting.

With such a large crowd playing this multi-round game about bean-shaped people vying for victory, we figured it was the perfect moment to come in and offer some tips for new players and "veterans" alike.

10 Master The Jump Dive

There are only three actions that are necessary for gameplay in Fall Guys, the jump, the dive, the grab. But, surprisingly there is a bit of a higher ceiling for mastery than one would expect (enough to compare it to some of the platforming greats) with these deceptive mechanics. For example, being successful in the Soccer game, Fall Ball heavily depends on an understanding of how jumping, jump-diving, or just diving into the ball changes where it goes. There are a million things that diving helps with, too much to go into, so just practice diving at the apex of the jump and know that it pretty decently increases the amount of distance any one of these little beans can cover.

9 Learn To Compensate For A Lackluster Team

The Team Games in Fall Guys are a polarizing subject. On one side people love them and think the luck-based nature of who ends up on each team is a crucial aspect of the game. On the other hand, there are people who despise them (and some of the other maps) and wish they could either queue for games with no team aspects or wish that one person couldn't bring the entire team down so much. But, there are ways to compensate for a lackluster team. Someone can easily support others so that the less skilled players can still contribute and help get the entire team to the next round. Holding people in Tail Tag so other teammates can come snag a tail, for example, is just one way out of many.

8 Study Up On All The Little Tricks Such As Mantling

There are a bunch of subtle tricks and tips players pick up on the more games they play, especially in the final maps, and learning about them earlier will absolutely help to quickly improve their overall skill. First, mantling is actually a thing, but it's hyper-specific, so players should just always try grabbing if it looks like their guy might not make it and if they can mantle, they will automatically. Two, jumping multiple times while running down slopes actually increases their speed Mario 64 style (a game still arguably better than its present-day comparison), use it to get an early lead in games like Whirlygig. And lastly, if the game requires some precise jumping, try to space the Fall Guy away from other players, because landing on someone else can absolutely knock the character over again and earn them a quick elimination.

7 Research Or Look Up Useful Shortcuts

Believe it or not, this adorably cartoony game actually has a fair amount of speedrunner-esque (a hobby/career perfect to work on right now given current events) exploits in it that can easily be found with a bit of research. Just to name one, there are a number of teensy shortcuts in Slime Climb such as jumping on the triangular bounce-pads before the first ramp or jumping up from the slime hammers onto the second row of pushers.

These aren't huge time-savers, but they can absolutely get a player ahead of the mob, which is also crucial for keeping away from that ever-encroaching slime.

6 Try Blending In With The Pack

This next one is less of a mechanical tip and more of an espionage-type one, but there is some merit to blending in. There is a surprising amount of customization in Fall Guys overall, with many different variables at play. And, some costumes that bought with crowns or earned from higher levels level stick out a lot more. Sadly, it seems like players have a tendency to try to mess up the players that had enough crowns to buy Epic costumes or Rare skins. So, for someone who wants to avoid being targeted, blend in with the crowd. Either wear one of the pre-order costumes or even just nothing at all and players will notice people targeting them a fair amount less.

5 Keep Some Distance In Jump-Based Games

Paying attention to where a Fall Guy lands is way more important than people realize in this. For games like Block Paty, Tip Toe, Jump Showdown, Fruit Chute, Hit Parade, and even Gate Crash, jumping on a flat surface massively helps players make it through qualifications. Waiting a bit to jump or standing close to the edge to distance themselves from other players is totally worth it in the long run, even if it may not seem like it. All it takes is one extra knockdown in a game like Jump Showdown to mean the difference between 1st and 2nd, so always aim for a clear area when jumping.

4 Master The Final Games, Especially Hex-A-Gone

Fall Guys has a decent chunk of mini-games to play, but there are only four final games. These are the ones that determine who wins, and each one has its pros and cons. Most of them can be "mastered" but there's still a fair amount of luck that will determine if someone wins or loses, except for Hex-A-Gone. This game is mostly based on positioning and skill level, so a player who really focuses on getting good at this one will find themselves with many more crowns than what they would have initially expected.

3 Pay Attention To Camera Placement In The Finals

Speaking of the final game, here's one more tip that seems like common sense, but makes a big enough difference to warrant reiteration. Basically, keeping the camera a bit tilted up or down depending on the game could be the difference between elimination or victory. For example, in Fall Mountain, keeping it tilted up lets the player see exactly which cannons are firing, and where to position themselves to avoid them.

In Hex-A-Gone, tilting down lets players aim themselves to land on perfect isolated areas where no one can bother them. And in Royal Fumble, players love to hang out on the carousel, and run up and down, so camera positioning lets the player keep an eye on the prized tail at all times.

2 Utilize The Spotty Servers To Your Advantage

Remember, this game was probably prepared for like a fourth of the players it actually got on release, and as such, the servers have had to go through a lot of changes and maintenance to make sure they can handle the mob. They aren't perfect, disconnects are going to happen, lobbies might not start full, and queuing make take a bit of time. Plus, like many other BR games, there are hackers. Still, there are benefits to this that players can exploit. For example, knowing that the game can start without a 60 player minimum is nice, since that means potentially fewer rounds if only 35-40 players make it in. Aiming to play when people aren't usually gaming or right after a server maintenance can make getting to the crown just a bit easier.

1 Don't Lose Hope, Victory Comes For Everyone At Some Point

And finally, understand that Fall Guys is a party game that's meant to be enjoyed both in a casual and competitive sense. Yes, there are parts of the game that are frustrating and parts that truly depend on chance, but that doesn't mean an unlucky player will never win the crown. Know that eventually, anyone will win a crown, and soon it may even become easy for a player to win multiple in a row, but it'll require a bit of bashing their head against a figurative wall at first. Players should just focus on enjoying themselves throughout that whole process.
