Rogue-like action platformer Fallback is coming to PC very soon, and TheGamer has an exclusive first look.

Fallback is the first game developed by ENROAD, an independent studio made up of Ubisoft and Amplitude Studios veterans.  Fallback may look similar to other rogue-likes like Dead Cells or Rogue Legacy, but the game's ace up its sleeve is camera rotation mechanic that literally adds another dimension to gameplay.

Fallback is about group of survivors living in a subterranean society in the distant future after the collapse of civilization. In humanity's final days, an enigmantic company called Vesta created an underground facility and filled it with an army of robots to protect what remained of the human race. Hundreds of years later, a group of rebels seek to return to the surface and bring new life to the planet in the form of a very special bio-engineered plant. The robots aren't having any of that, obviously, and will go as far as to kill these rebels in order to keep what's left of humanity "safe" underground.

In each run, players will select a rebel and attempt to find (playable) rebel leaders and reach the surface, armed with jet packs and a swords, by fighting through hordes of machines and upgrading skills through a robust and highly customizable skill tree.

Dead Cells players (of which there are many) should be getting excited right about now. Fallback features procedurally generated levels and over 50(!) different skills to ensure that each run is a totally unique and exciting experience. Progression comes in the form of persistent skill tree upgrades that steadily increase power over the course of multiple runs, and individual run power-ups to make each playthrough exciting and fresh.

The real hook of Fallback, and the reason we're already confident it's going to be this years Dead Cells, is the 2.5d "perspective-shifting" mechanic that allows players to rotate levels 90 degrees and explore hidden pathways and areas. Many games have touted 2.5d simply for adding depth to the background, but ENROAD has contextualized 2.5d as a gameplay mechanic that immediately sets Fallback apart from the competition.

Beyond that, the game just looks gorgeous. Every action packed moment is filled with flashy combos, twitchy dodging, exciting environments, and loads of stunning particle effects that all work together to give the game a fresh, eye-catching style.

Fallback will be launch for Windows PC via Steam on October 11, 2019. For more, follow the game on Twitter and check back for preview and reviews coverage here on TheGamer.
