Codsworth is one of the first companions you can get in Fallout 4. What makes him special is that he is the only one that knew you before the bombs fell. He knew your partner and Shaun as well! In that sense, he is one of the few companions who is also invested to find Shaun.

While he isn't romanceable, he still has a decent amount of fans. Why? Well, check out these facts about him. There is more to Codsworth than meets the eye.

10 He Is One Of The Few Mr. Handy Robots To Acknowledge The Great War

Codsworth is one of many Mr. Handy characters in the Fallout series. However, he is a little different from many of his other robot siblings. He actually acknowledges that the Great War happened. He talks about the bombs dropping and the passage of time. Other Mr. Handys work more like ghosts of the past. They still act as though a war never happened. Is Codsworth just special? Who knows?

9 He Will Float Over Water Instead Of Swim

This is a good detail, as submerging in water would probably wreck Codsworth's robot body. Mr. Handys propel themselves off the ground in a similar fashion to a hot air balloon. So they are actually floating a bit. So if you decide to swim across a lake, Codsworth will follow but will float above the water instead of joining you in the nasty radiation filled pool.

8 He Can Say Over 900 Names

This fact is what sets Codsworth apart from every other Fallout NPC. Whatever you name your character, it is likely that he'll be able to say the name. A list of all the names he can say has been published, and there are a ton!

The names he can say include some silly ones such as Bacon, Boobie, Death, Dragon, Erectus, Goose, Markiepoo, Mudguts, Nasty, Orgasmo, and many other words we cannot repeat here!

7 He Hums Songs Like La Marseillaise And Rule, Britannia

If you hear Codsworth hum, it might sound like an oddly familiar tune. Strangely, it is actually the national anthem of France, Marseillaise. We do not know why Codsworth decides to hum this off all other tunes, especially since we are not in France. Besides the French anthem, he also hums Rule, Britannia. It is not a national anthem, but a patriotic song for Britain. Codsworth does have a British accent!

6 He Sometimes Interacts With Other Robot NPCs

Like how Curie interacts with doctors she meets across the Commonwealth, Codsworth interacts with robot NPCs. Just to name a few, he interacts  Takahashi and Wellingham in Diamond City, Whitechapel Charlie in Goodneighbor, and Deezer in Covenant. It is probably nice to him to go out and meet other Mr. Handys! Though they are all pretty different in terms of personality. Takahashi does not even speak English and Whitechapel Charlie has definitely done a lot of shady business.

5 He Can Wear Bowler Hats

It is a bit of a bummer that you cannot get Codsworth to wear much in terms of equipment. However, you can at least give him a bowler hat!

If you get the Automatron DLC, then you can change how Codsworth looks even more. You can give him weird legs, a paint job, and much more. If you want something very subtle though, go for the bowler hat. Note that it would be purely aesthetic though, as it won't affect his stats at all even with the plus one Endurance bonus. That's just the way things are with a robot companion.

4 He Quotes Monty Python

In combat, if Codsworth takes damage, there is a chance that he will say "Tis but a scratch." This could be a reference from the Black Knight character in the comedy movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Another possibility though is that the quote is in reference to Mercutio's death scene in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

As for which one is the truth, who can say? Either seems to be in the realm of possibility. Obviously, Romeo and Juliet would know in the Fallout universe while Monty Python would not. That is not to say one is more possible than the other, as Fallout has referenced plenty of pop culture before that would not be known in the Fallout universe.

3 He Was Recently Bought Before The Bombs Fell

Evidence has shown that Codsworth has actually not been around that long before the bombs fell. This is because the box he comes in is still in the house. It is a pretty big box too, to it is hard to miss.

This is also a little tragic on Codsworth's part. He just joined a family and was getting settled before everything fell apart.

2 Codsworth Was Inspired By Wadsworth

If you played Fallout 3, then Codsworth may have felt pretty familiar. This is because, in the third game, you also had your own personal robot butler. Except his name was Wadsworth! Wadsworth was similar to Codsworth in many ways. Firstly, he would also tell plenty of jokes if you asked him to. Secondly, he would give you purified water once in a while. The main difference between the two is that Codsworth was a companion while Wadsworth was stuck in your house.

1 Codsworth Continuing To Do Housework After The Bombs Fell Is Familiar

After leaving the Vault, you will discover that Codsworth has been still doing housework for the past 200 years. This is familiar to a 1982 graphic novel When the Wind Blows by Raymond Briggs. In that book, a character named Hilda ignored the bombings and continued to do housework. Except while Codsworth was in denial, Hilda was truly ignorant. Codsworth's behavior is also similar to a short story There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury. In that story, robots continue their duties despite their masters being long dead.
