Fallout 4 is a big game as it is, but it used to be even bigger. A load of cut content has been uncovered thanks to the Alternative Gaming Channel on YouTube. It turns out there was originally going to be a quest that rewarded you with a synth variant of your murdered spouse, creepy. Also, a 300-foot Glowing One called May-Pole also never made it into the final game.
Right at the beginning of Fallout 4, you, your spouse, and your son go into nearby Vault 111 to ride out the nuclear apocalypse. You're all cryogenically frozen, but a man breaks in, kidnaps your son, and murders your partner. Well, one questline was going to return them to you in synth form.
This is a particularly cruel use of the monkey's paw, as Synths in Fallout 4 are slave-like androids, and your partner would essentially be yours to command - weird. It fits in nicely with the plot of Fallout 4, all about runaway synths and underground railroads that attempt to free them.
This quest would have been part of The Institute, the organisation that manufactures the synths and holds them hostage. It as mentioned back in Fallout 3 on Rivet City, one of the more interesting side quests in the game.
As well as your robot spouse, there were loads of cut weapons and extra dialogue scenes, but most spectacular of all would have been May-Pole, a 300-foot ghoul, known as a Glowing One. These heavily irradiated ghouls glow and heal others with their excess radiation.
May-Pole was going to be included as a stark reminder of the horrors of the irradiated wastelands, but mirelurks, deathclaws, and the general poor state of everything cover all those bases quite nicely anyway.
In other Fallout news, clever modders brought over Elden Ring community legend Let Me Solo her, recreating the Malenia slaying hero's iconic look of a loin cloth and a sort of onion helmet.
A revamped version of a horror mod was released recently too, and it transforms Fallout 4 into a Silent Hill-esque nightmare.
