Before purchasing Home Plate, you should consider whether you're going to use it enough for it to be worth the investment. You have to spend a lot of caps to acquire ownership of this small home, and there are many settlements that you can claim for free that are much larger. However, if you decide that you want your primary home in Diamond City, then continue below to find out how to purchase it.

Travel To The Mayor's Office

Before you have the option to purchase Home Plate, you have to travel to the Mayor's Office. The office is above Diamond City, and it includes a few characters such as Geneva and Mayor McDonough. You can get to the Mayor's Office by taking a makeshift elevator, which you can find near the entrance to Diamond City. Once you reach the top of the stadium and enter the office, you can speak with Geneva.

Speak With Geneva

Geneva is the character you have to speak with to inquire about a house for sale. Choose the "Housing Permit" dialogue option, and then she will tell you that Home Plate is currently empty, but you need to pay 2000 Caps to claim ownership of it. Pay Geneva the 2000 Caps, and you'll become the permanent owner of Home Plate, which is a small house that you can find in the middle of the Diamond City marketplace. You receive a new fast-travel location once you own Home Plate. After you buy this house, you can't sell it.

Unfortunately, Geneva isn't an essential character, so she can die if you or another NPC attacks her. Either purchase Home Plate as quickly as possible or be extra cautious while you're around Geneva.

The Differences Between Regular Settlements And Home Plate

Although Home Plate is similar to regular settlements in certain ways, it also has a few notable differences. You can't send companions to live at Home Plate, and you can't create a supply line between this house and another settlement.

How To Decorate The Home Plate

Home Plate may be small when you compare it to other settlements; however, it's also one of the most fun locations to decorate since it has a comfortable feeling that you can only obtain in a settlement like Diamond City. There's a lot of ways to decorate Home Plate since you have access to many of the settlement items; however, there are some items that you can't build inside Home Plate, such as standard Water Purifiers.

You can build inside Home Plate using the same method as other settlements. Hit the button that opens the workshop on your platform or interact with the Workbench inside the house. You'll then gain access to every available item you can craft, but you need to have the necessary materials inside your inventory or Home Plate's Workbench. You may want to scrap the items inside Home Plate before you start building because they clutter up the house's interior.
